Toyo Proxes T1-r is a reliable choice as a roadtyre for light cars. I've had a set on my Subaru trackcar for more than a season and they are still good.
I wouldn't go for Bridgestones as they are very stiff. Giving the car a very precise feel of direction but are very uncomfortable on UK b-roads.

A039R - SEOT.
Are these readily available anywhere though? (I'm assuming these are the Yokos with similar compound to the 48R but with a 'racing wet' tread pattern) - every time I've heard '39R' I also hear people complaining they're impossible to find. And if your car is used regularly then having to wait months for tyre availability after a puncture etc. is not good news.
(BTW - what does 'SEOT' mean? I've only ever seen the acronym on SELOC incidentally... even though I don't see you over there any more... and I've been around the internet a long time so it's not a 'standard' net acronym)

they are a std Lotus tyre, stocked by most of the dealers and if not, Yoko have stocks.
only downside to them is cost (blame lotus), they are a much more road oriented tyre, not like the 48, tread is only the half of it.

king swine flu, I'm meant to be in Switzerland skiing but I wouldn't be allowed on a plane. And Tamiflu is making me feel lousy. Beats the 40 degree temperature I had yesterday, mind you.Yeah, I should get out more

In your opinion what's the difference (on a average dry day, same driver same car) between the 39Rs and 48Rs, say round Brands Indy? Competent but not front-running-racer-standard track driver.
If there's not much in it, I'd be tempted to put my unused brand-new 48Rs that came off my new Exige up for sale and get a set of 39Rs - however if they're an instant 3 second increase in lap time then I'll wait until I've hit my personal goal for this year (sad I know, but I'm determined to get down to a particular laptime round Brands... set myself a target, something to aim for)

as usual, everything is a compromise.....if you really want that last second a lap (on a track day!) you need a trailer, with a couple of sets of wheels n tyres

OK, OK, I'm talking incoherent nonsense - I've got bloody pig flu and a high temperature
I thought there was some Yoko tyre that was effectively the same sticky dry-trackday compound rubber as the 48R, but with a more sensible road tread (i.e. less aquaplaning). I thought racing wets would have an entirely different compound and that's why they'd shred in the dry. Obviously not.
Apologies if I'm not making sense, agreed the last couple of posts sound a little weird. I'm just not sure if I'm going to continue to run 48Rs on the road as my 'normal' summer tyres but I want a high-performance summer tyre that I'll also use on trackdays - i.e. a consistent tyre without the need for trailers, swapping tyres etc. I already have two sets with my winter tyres!
However I have set myself a speed target in terms of improving my track driving, and if 3 seconds a lap of my current speed are due to the 48Rs then swapping the tyres to something more 'road' oriented will make my task all that much harder!!!

The 39's are a soft compound, and you'll nail them in no time once heat gets into them. They are also about £750 a set, making 48's seem cheap. You probably won't like T1Rs so I'd have a talk to Lotus about alternatives.

On a similar thread on the dreaded SELOC there is talk of a Toyo R1-R which is apparently the R888 compound with more tread to clear water i.e. prevent the aquaplaning that these trackday tyres so often experience.
These sound great...

If it's not possible (as you're implying) then that's my answer. I was just wondering whether there was a great happy medium, can't blame me for asking since you lot are likely to know more than me (I've only tried Bridgestones, Pirellis, R888s and A048Rs)
