I have just had a call from a Caterham dealer I went to see at the weekend. I was looking to part exchange the Liz in against a 7 and wanted to know what he was willing to offer. The answer............£12k

£12k for an imaculate 1999 111s with 21,000 miles on the clock! Are they having a .

What should it be worth? I was thinking £15k.

I don't think i'll be going back there again anytime soon.

15k Trade? In your dreams! Retail is a little over £15k, mail penenelopepitstop, shes looking for a good 111S but I would'nt bank on £15k for it!

So car dealers expect a 3k+ mark up on a car they can sell for 15k? wth!

If it reatails for 15k+ surely trade should be 13.5 or so?

Most mk1's want a 1k spending on them, normally suspension bushes etc, perhaps a bit of paint, 12k might be a tad hard

The car had a full service and MOT when I bought it 3 months and 2,000 miles ago, it really does not need any money spending on it. It's a shame really, I love the car to bits but am really hankering after a 7 at the moment.

I am shocked at the mark up that these guys are expecting to make (£3k). Just goes to prove that all car dealers are crooks

£12K seems a little on the low side. What exactly are you getting off him? When I PX'd my 2001 Racetech for a new 111S, I got trade for the PX, but got £1500 off the list for the 111S - which is fair enough. Sounds like your chap might be trying to make his profit twice.

I was getting offers of £15-16k trade on mine against a Griff.

Course I've not been able to shift it privately at a price that I think's right.

Arse sums it up

Cheers,
Rob

Agreed, having been getting some trade in prices over the last couple of months it sounds as though they _are_ expecting to be making at least 3k

Less discount on screen price, less warranty cost, less reconditioning cost, less VAT on Profit margin, less funding costs, less heat/light, less staff skiving on PH! .... where did that 3grand go?
