My son is looking for a Lotus Elise. His insurance company insists that he fits a satellite tracking device to the car as a condition of insurance. I have been surfing the web to try to find prices etc, but the only sites I can find fail to mention price. I guess this is because they want you to ring them so that they can try to talk you into buying their particular product. Can anyone help with advise and info on a reasonably priced system?

try sinclairs (essex) on 01708 343904 -very helpful and have a tracker installation service.

Believe price varies depending on how much you pay up front.
IIRC it's something like upfront one off of c.£500 for lifetime cover or c.£150 upfront + annual costs of c.£100

however, although the insurance companies (direct line group inc. tescos & churchill) say they need a tracker, if you ask them to check with the underwriter they may waive it on the basis installation stuffs up engine management electronics or there is no suitable mounting location.

I use quiktrak (in sydney) www.quiktrak.com.au and I believe a similar network is available in the U.K www.quiktrak.co.uk

Must say impressive technology- can even disable the car if someone steals your keys!

Have a look at - www.tracker.co.uk

Has prices etc on the site - the insurers go for the monitor model (it calls when the alarm is activated)

it quotes 150 for installation - however 100 is more common!

I paid £400 for a tracker monitor fitted & 1st year, then it's £99 per year thereafter. There is one package a little cheaper, but it relies on me phoning tracker if my car is stolen. With tracker monitor, they phone me if my car is moved without being started with the keys.

I got the RAC 24hr guardian, they monitor the car 24 hours a day, and it cost £600 fitted and then about £100 quid a year.

Very, very cheap if think about how much it will save you and how much safer your car is.

Thanks for the advise everyone. My son has found a car now and is picking it up on Friday. The insurance company have agreed to insure it, but not covered for theft until the tracker fitted. So I'll certainly be looking into the trackers that you have suggested (and quickly). Thanks again. Ali B.

I also needed one to be insurance compliant with my new 111R. I went for the RAC trackstar as it seems to be the best unit. It's fully active, has GPS accurate to a couple of metres and warns of static speed cameras.
