Evening gents, any views good or bad and specifically the yellow 08 Exige with just about the full onty on it for what seems like a too good to be true price?
Cheers,

My local dealer and bought my Elise from them - great service. Ask for Guy Munday, top bloke.Cheers,

I went to the SMC last week for the first time (from the Midlands) to pick up some AD 048's as they are the cheapest.
I didn't see the Exige in question, although they have a stunning white Exige. My impressions are that it's a well run garage, very posh and expensive looking, I guess that's the Astons and Morgans in the show room doing that, yet they seem competitive on price. Always worth a look!

I used to work there, I admit only in parts and for a very short time in service. I can honestly say they are a very good garage offering a great service at a very competitive price.
Guy in sales is considered one of, if not THE best salesmen. His knowledge of all things Lotus is truely amazing.
Ian in service is the most honest and reasonable man going in the motor industry. If he can help out in any way he will.
The guys in parts (Robert, Dusty and Russell) have got such good product knowledge, between them there is nothing they can't answer. If they can't source the parts, im sure they will tell you where you are most likely to find them.
I'm sure a fair few Phers on here will be able to back up what you have just read. I even met a few in the 6 years I was working there
All in all, a great company to look after your pride and joy.

They've got my Esprit in at the moment for some work, A1 company with well deserved top reputation. Shame about the Exige, call up sooner next time a good deal comes along!
Get in touch with Guy all the same, if he knows you're looking he'll hook you up with a car the next time an Exige S comes in I'm sure.

He sounds like a proper decent bloke, my girlfriend sort of gave him an indecent proposal (financially) and having already accepted a verbal offer the day before, he turned her down.Get in touch with Guy all the same, if he knows you're looking he'll hook you up with a car the next time an Exige S comes in I'm sure.
Much as I'd have profited from shoddy morals - as I *really* wanted that car - it says more about Guy as a person that he stood his ground with the previous offer, and I respect him all the more for that.
I was a bit too miserable to discuss my requirements this morning when he rang to tell me he'd sold it and couldn't go back on his word, but will definitely call tomorrow just in case there are more coming through the pipeline. Integrity like that is invaluable IMO.
I have purchased two Esprits a while ago from guy there, one new and one used. There is nothing Guy does not know about Lotus and he is 100% honest. I would happily buy a car sight unseen from him. The Stratton workshop is excellent as well. Not used them for a while as I sold my last Esprit almost 5 years ago but I still am in contact with Guy. They have a huge number of repeat customers as they look after their customers very well indeed. Excellent dealer and their prices always seemed very fair indeed when I last looked at buying from them.
Just to close the loop on this, and now I know Cyberface has bought himself something else that he is chuffed with, the OP (me!) was in fact the purchaser of this beastie (I had done a verbal deal with Stratton last thing close of business before I posted the original questions which is why they took the honourable stance of not accepting other bids the next day before I had actually phoned up to give them a deposit).
I think Stratton have now taken down the advert pics so to summarise it is an 08 Solar Yellow Exige S with one private owner, only 3,700 miles fully loaded with performance/sport/touring packs and absolutely mint.
Finally picked her up yesterday, did a 350 mile round trip - bit slippy out there so took it fairly easy but even on first impressions, what a machine - sooo chuffed! Have had a few cars since my 111R to dilute the memory a bit but even so the difference between the 111R and this is vast. Bought her unseen and over the phone (first time I have ever done this in about 30 cars purchased over the years) and absolutely as described if not better, plus the service from Guy at Stratton Motor Company was impeccable throughout.
Couple of bonus items - firstly it's armourfended and secondly although supposedly a standard exhaust which I had envisaged the need to change almost immediately, the thing has a real bark to it. There's no way I imagine it is the standard one but no receipt in the file for the previous owner having had it changed (there is however a receipt for a free flow air filter done at Lotus). Without a paper trail how do I tell what I've got exhaust-wise? It's a tad boomy at around 70mph but perfect for me otherwise with a lovely crackly bark on upchanging and downchanging and a nice howl on full throttle.
Wasn't totally convinced by the yellow in the pictures but in the flesh looks absolutely superb.
Thanks to all for the positive feedback on Stratton which helped cement the unseen purchase for me, and I add my own positive review for both the car and dealer.

Hi mate,
firstly congratulations!
Rights lotus exhausts....
Standard looks like two flat ended pipes that come down and out in a 90 degree bend. Stage 1 is again the down and out in a 90 degree but the tops of the two pipes overhang to give it a diagonal cut two them so if you were to look side on it would have a / type of finish rather than the | of the standard. The stage 2 Is basically straight down and out in two larger tail pipes but unless you near enough got on your hands and knees you wouldn't be able to see them.
Just noted it is an 's' in which case you will have an oval tail pipe with the standard and stage 1. If it's got the sports package it will have the stage one. Which as you say is quite boomy. The easiest way to confirm is to have a look through the grills, if it's a massive box that takes up all of the room it's standard. If it's smaller its the stage 1.
Hope this helps
Tim.
