Read a few threads now with the VX mentioned in a rather hated manner.

Do all Elise owners hate the VX?

If so, why exactly?

I quite like the VX but love the Elise. I'd have an Elise (or a VX) tomorrow if insurance wasn't £3,000,000! for either of them.

Also early Elises seem to be same price as early Vx's but there's 4 years age difference.

Your thoughts guys.

its an image thing... nothing affects a cars value more

Vauxhall badge or Lotus badge in image theres is no contest, as to which is the better car, all down to personal preferance.

but image is all the classic example being the poor honda nsx

I think the VX is a great car!

I don't understand why some Elise drivers hate them so much! I've actually heard of some really bitchy comments coming from Elise Drivers, its pathetic really!

Most of the time its just banter between the owners.

The VX is the performance bargain of the century - Im sure Vauxhall sell them at a loss as a marketing exercise

The choice is yours and really comes down to intended use (track/road) and whether you really want the Lotus badge and which styling your prefer.

Not driven one but it's the styling that dosen't do it for me, bit too angular, I like the curveyness of the S1 I'm sure it's a great car though.

I have a S2 Elise, in the best colour, Gunmetal , but I'd have no hesitation in upgrading to a VX220 Turbo, when the price is right!

I've got nothing against the VX, I think it's a great car and I'd love to drive one (hmmm, maybe a trip to the dealer is in order). As has already been said, most comments you hear from Elise owners will be totally tongue in cheek. It's just like the good old days of VHS versus Betamax.

in all honesty:

never driven one or rode "shotgun" (i may be tempted to use the shotgun on myself if i do )

dont like the styling nor the image.

BUT, to those who have one and arent bothered about image. well done.

im just a slag for all things branded.

any remarks from me are tongue in cheek

Definately a badge thing. Early 220s have lost a hell of a lot of money. Far more than an Elise of the same age, and they were pretty much the same list price. For reasons only known to Lotus, the VX220 is cheaper to service. Having said that, my Dad had an Omega Elite and the missus a Corsa, and I guess the reason for cheaper servicing on the VX, is that they offer the same universally sh1te customer service that they give to all other Vauxhall owners.

You've a choices with the VX/Elise thing really - you can go for the badge, and get an older Lotus, or you can go with the bargain, and get a VX. Me - I went for the bargain!

They're pretty much the same car, but for the same cash you get a better engine and roof in the VX than you do with an S1 Elise. Both cracking cars, and the Elise does have *that* badge.

I went for the better car for *me*. Never had a problem with Elise owners - I wave, they wave back, all seems quite friendly. There is a bit of banter, but no more than between S1 and S2 Elise owners on SELOC!

I dont care about badges or the way they look just the way they drive/handle. Round Mallory a VX220T was no quicker at all when I was driving my old standard S2 (not 111s).

Sraights = VX220T
Corners = S2 Elise

Although there was *hardly* any difference between them all the way round. This is all due to the weight.
