Some F*@#$! stole my dec 02 model 111s the other night (20/1/04)... had only put geary's shift kit in a few weeks ago too....

My dealer tells me that by the time my insurance pays out (assuming car is not found in next 3 weeks)there will be a choice of a US spec toyota engined elise, ithink 111-R(also with ABS as standard), or a 111 "sport" which retains the k-series and comes with the LSS suspension and A048 tyres/oz rims as a car more suited to track work...

decisions, decisions... any thoughts as to the better choice?

first off, sorry to hear of this "incident".

to answer your question, i see you have more than one car. (good selection )

i'd be inclined to go for the track-orientated model

turn it into a track-slag

Id go for the Toyota model...190bhp std ...and then stick the Yokos and LSS on it

Don't forget that the toyota model is heavier! It needs the 190 to get a decent 0-60 time.

Personally the lighter the better because, obv, braking points are reduced and sppeds in corners are greatly improved - LSS or not.

111R is officially 4.7 seconds 0-60 and 144mph. An official Lotus sports exhaust is coming out soon to improve those stats further. A totally reliable 200bhp sounds good enough to me.

My dealer said the Lotus engine test programme on the new toyota engine resulted in no engines blowing up at all, when tested to the max limit. The same test cycle on the old k series saw five engines explode, to give you an idea of the new improved engine strength.

Hi Sydneyse,

Oh god! I'm in Sydney, just sold my S1 Elise and am getting the new Toyota Elise.

Where did it get flogged from? Who do you insure through? It's got to be dumped, they couldn't possibly resell it.

You are more than welcome to have a look at mine and take it for a spin to make your decision easier.

CAR RECOVERED!
my elise was recovered on 22/1/04 at 5 in the morning. It was left at a secure underground apartment carpark!!! The police say they've done this at this carpark before- a resident rang the police as noting that in the past few years, theres never been such a nice car parked there and thought it might be stolen!!
Looks like the car is fine apart from some fine scratches (rough cover? over dirt?) and a driveway scrape on spoiler (naturally needs new ignition locks and other locks replaced).
The dealer downloaded the ECU and noted that it had not been over revved!
Mind you, I only had 5l of petrol in it- they used 4 (I filled it with jerry can to get to dealer)

ACP- I'm insured with NRMA (cheapest I've found- bu the excess is $1000-00 which is twice what it is for my M3)
Jason at Rick Damelian told me that a yellow 111R is coming at the end of Feb. Is that yours?

ACP- I live in Paddington and the car was found in Dulwich Hill. approx 15km between them- around 50Km on the clock..

Great news they found it and in one piece! I live in Elizabeth Bay. Saw you one Friday night in Elizabeth Bay I think you had a personalised plate starting with 'S'. Had to be you as I doubt there are many black 111S out there.

My new one is yellow too and I get it a lot sooner than the end of Feb! All can be revealed next week. Rick Ds will get one from the second shipment I believe.

Will try NRMA (again) and see what I can find. Insurance is a nightmare here!

Have to get all the Sydney Elises and Exiges together for a spin and a few beers at some stage!!!

ACP- my personalised plates are LUSTY and yes, I often drive through woollamalloo (I never spell that right) and elizabeth bay on the way home from work (and I like drifting the rear around the corner up the hill from the navy base...)

Aroma T- the elise immobiizer/Alarm here is a Cobra item which is not that great (3point I think immobiliser?) I think the M3 has a 6 point from the factory...

ACP- Insurance wise (I'm 33, wife is 26) the NRMA was easily the most competitive! (I never thought I would say that). Dawes/Shannons would not insure the car for anyone under 30 (and my wife does like to drive it!) In fact that was the issue for most insurer's. The NRMA gave a competitive quote the only draw back being a $1000 excess. I have the M3 with MB Prestige and they insure the M3 for $600/year less than the NRMA.. Amazingly the NRMA was good for elise insurance. On the bright side- both are cheaper than a WRX..

I know the Navy base corner well, drive it every day! Sports exhaust booming off the standstone walls! I will call the NRMA now and see how I go. I'm 31 and have a quote from Shannons of $2,700 - I was paying $3,100 for my S1!

Sydneyse,

Need your help mate. Dickhead at NRMA claims to never have heard of a Lotus - let alone an Elise. Claims it's not in his system. How much do you pay?

Thanks,

ACP

Hey Anton, e-mail me- we'll swap numbers of-line. As for the NRMA- yep the phone staff are a bit iffy- it took me quite a few calls to confirm that they will reduce the premium by 10% if a quicktrack (www.quiktrak.com.au) alarm/tracker is fitted (initially told no discount- but quicktrack staff stated the opposite...)
The NRMA do not "have" a lotus elise on their regular system- they use another underwriter (that's why you can't get an estimate on their website premium calculator). I think I pay around $2200 but don't forget premiums have many factors- shannons gave me a similar quote to yours.

Just a quick hijack here!!

My girlfriend and I are comping over to Oz for a couple of weeks in April. First stop Sydney. Any recomendations on decent hotels. Not OTT pricey, but also not a Kings Cross room by the hour!! Would quite like to be near the Rocks for the (tourist) nightlife.

Thanks all you Aussies.

Promise not to mention the world cup

skinner, since 1 quid buys 2.7 south pacific pesos... I mean Aussie Dollars, I dont think you have a price issue...

I personally would never go out at the rocks- to much like going out in Manchester... umm.. depends on what you like.. I think the W hotel is fantastic.. (O.K I'm a reader/fan of Wallpaper magazine so keep that in mind with my comments)-but not at the rocks. Actually, the Westin in Sydney is fantastic and very well located (walk to rocks if you must..) and you can walk to Darling Harbour, King St Wharf (cocle bay) which are popular with tourists.. (
