It'll almost certainly be the control module - conveniently situated in the far right hand corner of the dash which entails removing the whole thing, although it is possible to put a new one in if you remove the vent leaving the old one in there

Assuming you can locate one, these have been on back order at Lotus forever, it seems frown

Yeah very. Could almost be considered a product recall, if Lotus were feeling significantly generous

had this done about a year ago, £30 parts £220 labour approx. I would seriously try DIY, it cannot be that difficult, just a Pain to get to, relay off, relay on sort of thing. An afternoons work tops.......

Yep. Central locking module for sure. I ordered mine from Bell And Colville for about £45 and it was dispatched the next day. Had it fitted whilst in for a service at a independent Lotus specialist and i think i was charged about £45 labour for it. My local lotus dealer wanted £280+ for a full dash out job !

Yeah mine went too. Specialist just put the new module on top of the old one. Too much hassle to take the whole dash out. Need small hands- as others have said it is a bit fiddly

Had a simular issue myself a few months back and installed a new module to try to cure it, my local Lotus dealer (Castle in Essex) had the part on the shelf. I replaced it myself, the job's a bit fiddly but perfectly do-able - http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Central_Locking_Module_Rep... This thread suggests that it's easier to replace the circuit board but I found that the casing for it in my car ('05 111s) was just wedged into place and not fixed by screws, I could pull the whole unit out and replace the whole thing like for like.

Is that the only symptom that the car's suffering from? When I replaced the module it didn't solve the problem that I had which was that the car would lock with the plipper but wouldn't unlock again straight away (the buttons would pop up but then go straight back down again) along with some occasional twitching from the lock buttons when driving accompanied by what sounded like an electrical shorting sound coming from under the dash, the car would also occasionally unlock itself all on it's own..... Turned out to be a faulty inertia switch relay (which is mounted under the dash on the passengers side), had to order that part as the dealer didn't keep it on the shelf but that job was just a little easier than replacing the module laugh

A very interesting read indeed!

Almost 4 years later and with an identical model Elise (2005 111S), I took had exactly the same issue with my central locking.

The same occasional twitching at times while driving, the same unlocking when parked on its own accord.

The Lotus specialists down here in Australia had tried a variety of different fixes ranging from new CDL module, new lock actuators, new CDL relay, checking wiring, checking the immobilizer/alarm system, etc.

It absolutely did my head in but eventually we got there thanks to your convo on this thread.

In the end for me, the relay itself didn't achieve the right result however it did lead us to the right link which was a faulty inertia switch.

It had suffered from some internal water damage which was causing the same intermittent results as your faulty relay.

So well done gents and a heart-felt thank you all the way from Melbourne, Australia!!

Glad to have been of assistance and that you were able to resolve your issues thumbup

A few months after posting my response I started to suffer the same symptoms again - twitching toggles, car unlocking itself, shorting sound from under the dash - so I just removed the relay and left it as that. Didn't think that it might have actually been the switch at fault... rolleyeshehe
