Hi Everyone, had 3 elises back in the early 2000's...
Had a variety of porsche in between and currently a 996 turbo which is superb.

I have driven a 111r at the weekend and liked it a lot.

I may get another one at some stage.

Do people modify these cars these days?

I understand sport exhausts are typical, what is the best choice? I like moderatly loud but HATE motorway droning!

Then sport cats? are they worth it?

Finally, do people use induction kits? Which are the good ones?
Can the cam effect be modified to come in a little earlier?

Any other good VFM ideas?

I do not want to supercharge... too expensive, complicated etc...

Thanks in advance,
Eric.

edit ps: should say 'into' in the title. Sorry... smile

Simple answer. Either Larini or 2Bular for exhaust (I favour Larini for the noise). ITG Maxogen induction will suck in small animals (or at least sound like it does). Then a Hangar 111 ECU flash to drop the cam change.

I've done the above on a NA car and it's more than loud/quick enough.

You can drop the cam change point, I believe it's just a change to the ECU program. There are lots of exhausts, induction kits, etc. available but none of them do much other than making a different noise.

You can always supercharge it if you want more power. driving

can you please clarify what the ECU cam change does? What rpm does it come in when modded? Are there any drawbacks like reliability? Cost??

About the supercharging: as said earlier i would not be looking to do it to start with but may think about it down the line. I understand the options are 1/ factory supercharger (is it as good as buying a sc in the first place?) i understand around £4k, right? 2/ Katana? any good? £4-5k as well?

Worth checking Sinclairs as well: they do a package (including remap) for the N/A Yota.

Hi,

I've just bought an Elise 111R and I am very much interested in this discussion.

Do the induction kits actualy add / open up to more power or are they just louder?

What would your first mods (any area) be on a stock 111R?

The cam change mod drops the change over to the high speed cam from 6200 to 5700 rpm. This makes the car easier to 'keep on cam' during spirited driving. You don't have to watch for the red light before changing up to ensure that you are still on the cam after the gear change. In my opinion it makes it a bit more drivable, but removes the abruptness of the change, which was quite a good feeling. So mixed emotions about that on really. It feels a little quicker, but I actually doubt if it is. H111 did mine, cannot fault them, although the tickover speed is a little high for me with the A/C or a high drain on the alternator, but normally it is fine.

Cannot comment on the exhaust mods, except the OEM stage 1, which does sound better, and is a bit lighter I think.

There are two options regarding the ECU a Cam change upgrade or full Retune

The cam change can be done aftermarket or by a offical lotus dealer as lotus have a offical upgrade that changes the cam changeover point, i think lotus call it the motorsport ECU, it bascially lowers the cam change to 5700 or there abouts, posts i have seen on the subject have generally been postive about the change, so i'm guessing most folks seem to like it, i don't think there's much differance between the lotus/aftermarket version other than perhaps cost

The other ECU option is the re-tune, that does the same cam lowering job, as above but also re-tunes the ECU to take advantage of aftermarket exhausts/manifolds/induction, to make a bit more power, since your asking about induction/exhaust i assume you intend to fit/buy with fitted so i would go for the Retune, to take advantage of that and give yourself a bit more power as well as a nice noise

The supercharging options are the offical lotus one, which effectively makes the car the same as a SC, or the katana that makes a bit more power than the lotus one, 10 to 15% more i think

Hanger 111 do both normal cam change ECU upgrades and full retunes, the retune is called the GT200 spec and the cam change the motorsport spec, or at least they were it's been a while since i looked into buying a elise
