Ok guys, confession time
I bought a CAT-replacement pipe from Geary and went to get it fitted at Brucesesesees.
anyway, despite having CRP as "new" in my profile bruce discovered i already had a CRP installed (no laughing cuzza )
anyway, i gave the CRP back and rang the previous owner. he explained to me that he had not fitted it and was totally unaware of its existence (as i was, hence buying one).
thing is, he owned the car in march 2003, when it passed an MOT, including the emissions test.
WTF??
will it pass without a CATpipe?

i should be more clear
i had two CRPs one on the car (i didnt know about) and one i bought. the one i gave back was the one i bought so at current my car is running a CRP and i dont have the CAT to just swap over
on its last MOT it had a CRP but the owner didnt know.
how the f**k did it pass?

You probably are never going to find out.
Either.
1. The previous owner is lying and has lost/sold the CAT. (You can get a good price for them)
2. The MOT centre might have thought "Why is this thing not passing? - we haven't worked on one of these cars before and dont fancy prodding around this late in the day - it is friday afternoon after all - ah fcuck it - sign the slip"
3. The calibration of the MOT's equipment was out.
4. The little beauty just got lucky.
Either way. Don't worry about it. Ask one of the nice members on here who has a CRP fitted to borrow their cat for the day.
Sorted geezer.

Cheers guys,
i remember the day clearly.
Me: "right dad, im off to go see it with jason"
dad: "just make sure its got a flippin CAT"
me: "will do"
.......
me: "does it have a cat?"
owner: "oh yes...do you want to check?"
me: (whilst checking over the whole history of the car showing nothing) "nah i trust you"
.....................................
me: (jan 2004)
dad: (if he finds out)
and then
anyway, i have asked for a place in manchester on Norlog, under a new name (see if you can spot me! ) and if nothing happens then ill just chance it!
cheers fellas
p.s. it is not unheard of for cars to pass, de-catted. a bloke i kind of knew had a near 500bhp de-catted skyline pass without a problem!

Bloke I know of had an S1 111S pass it's MOT in the last month without an CAT fitted . . .
I have also heard that if you declare "this car has no cat" then some MOT testers will test it based on a non catted car . . . which the Elise will pass easily . . .
It's not as black and white as "it can't pass without a CAT" regardless of the legality . . .
go figure . . .

Only playing!
Can someone 'lend' you a CAT? Maybe one of the NORLOG guys has a CRP but still has the CAT in their garage?
It shouldn't be a difficult job to change it over for a day, undertray off, undo six bolts, remove CRP - fit CAT, replace undertray (very important - if it can't be seen, it can't be tested), have car tested. Reverse procedure above and buy your mate a beer
