Hi guys,

I previously ran a VX220 as my only car for for 3.5 years before moving to London 3 years ago. However, I really miss it and am considering a return to the Elise family.
I don't do many miles, but a lot of the time when I do drive I have an acoustic guitar with me. I remember that being a real pain in the VX - it didn't really fit in the passenger footwell (due to the footwell narrowing as it goes foward), and ended up interfering with the gear stick, to the point where 1st and 2nd were almost impossible to grab with the guitar in there.

Does anyone know whether the footwell in the S2 Elise is the same as the VX? And does anyone carry an acoustic in their Elise, and if so, any novel carrying advice?

Cheers,

Jim

Yes, VX and Elise chassis are basically the same, so you'll have exactly the same space issues. Most people just switch on the radio if they want music while they drive, though.

I would have thought it would fit neck-downwards on its side in the Elise if you could find a way to strap it to the side of the car to stop it falling over, although you might have to take the roof off to get it in and out.

I once got my boyfriend and my guitar in the car. Ok - it's an electric guitar, and he wasn't too pleased, but it did fit!

It will fit, but you'll want a case to stop it getting battered.

Body down is most stable, but it gets a bit close to interfering with the clutch pedal:

Neck down fits better without interfering with any of the controls, but you would probably want to find a way of tying it down:

Thanks for the help guys, especially otolith - above and beyond (unless you happened to have those photos sitting around)!

I was carrying mine in a Hiscox flight case before, which is why it didn't go in body first. Might have a look at the padded gig bag option.

I did get the acoustic in with a 6' 2" passenger once - guitar was in neck first, and he couldn't see a thing as the body was in front of his head. Probably would have been alright had we not been late for a gig which was halfway along one of my favourite country roads. He looked a bit pale when we arrived biggrin

Tip it on it's side and secure using the seatbelt. Carried one around in my S1 a number of times (including during an accident) and it was fine. The fact that it escaped injury after that was about the only thing that cheered me up afterwards.

Mine fits in in its Gibson hard case (like the neck first picture above).

I can fit two acoustics in the pasenger seat of my S1! A six and a twelve, both in hard cases.
