hi there have made the jump from tvr to a s1 and may need some silly questions awnsered.
was wondering if any one carried a space saver spare wheel instead of pumping tyre weld into a puncture that could be repaired.
my car has a perspex rear window i take not a standard option? was considering replacing with glass if they are avalible to quiten the cabin down or would it not make much difference.
many thanks many more silly questions to come.
andy.

Hi and welcome. I'm no longer an S1 owner but still loiter for the banter.
I believe perspex is an aftermarket change. probably makes little difference, but possible that a previous owner had not secured the glass one properly, had a blow out and took a cheap option... or a weight saving one.
For most questions on S1s although people can help I can't recommend SELOC enough. The Techwiki section is excellent and will probably answer most questions you can think of and some that you haven't!

Hi Andy. Not sure where a spacesaver would fit? Anyway think of the weight!!
The can will do its job (unless you really badly rip a tyre) and get you home safely.
Regarding the rear window: The Perspex one will be a replacement. Depending on the year of your car the screen will be either upright or slightly angled (later cars have the angled screen). The reason for the change is that apparantly some of the early upright screens would suddenly shatter for no apparant reason. The change to the angled screen fixed it. The perspex screen should be lighter but replacing it with a glass one is unlikely to make any difference to noise: thats part and parcel of the Elise.

Yes....I'd say the best compromise is a fresh can of Tyreweld and beefing up the AA/RAC whatever membership to include recovery.
I say that as I learned the hard(ish) way....got a cheap breakdown cover and then a sidewall puncture just 20 odd miles from home (Tyreweld hopeless now).
They would not take me an inch more than the 10 miles in the small print and just dumped the car at the nearest tyre depot. The kid there was great and managed to fit a crap and cheap tyre so I could limp home.
But I'd much preferred to have got the car home and removed the wheel at my leisure, and get the correct tyre. I will soon have to replace a tyre which has only done 10 miles....(am abroad now and car is in garage!)
