Piper 270's-Cam timing
Discussion
Hello All.
I have fitted Piper 270's to my Elise. I also had hindsight and installed verniers. On Dave Andrews excellent website - it gave lift at TDC for inlet and exhaust at
just over 1mm.The exhaust cam was originally too advanced. This destroyed low down torque.I have installed cam to correct timing and what a difference - huge
mid-range and much improved bottom end drivability. I still think I get the same top end - but the torque curve is much linear - so this maybe deceptive. As an
additional benefit the throttle response has improved. Unfortunately, I don't get flames out the back now on the over run!
So does retarding the exhaust cam timing reduce top end but improve low speed drivability? Is this also true of inlet cam timings?
I know - use the correct timings from the manufacturer....!
