I know this subject has probably been covered in depth before, so may apologies for going over old ground but...
Looking to fit sports exhaust and induction kit to my Elise Mk1. After checking through previous threads on here and other info, I was gonna go for the Janspeed exhaust and ITG Induction kits from PTP (already got Cat replacement pipe). Although pricey, seems like the best combination of performance increase and sound. However, I was wondering what you peeps' opionions were on alternative exhausts/filter kits, notably the Hurricane kit which is considerably cheaper.
Cheers folks!

Id go for the Hurricane...no difference in performance for half the price of the ITG...and I had the ITG on my car before it was supercharged due it inavailability of Hurricane at the time.

Thanks bogie. Have you tried both systems at all? I appreciate that the basic principal offered by both the Hurricane and ITG units is the same - ducted, forced, cold air onto improved foam/re-inforced paper filter - but that heatsoak would be better resisted by the carbon fibre housed ITG unit over the alloy bodied Hurricane? And I guess in terms of noise, pretty much the same?

I would think the heatsoak would be better resisted by the bright shiny ally one rather than the dark carbon number (all heat shield are shiny alloy, not carbon). They will all suffer heat soak in some form or another but it will be ngligible compared to the benfits of have a free flow system. Unless you're minted, go the Hurricane - I haven't tried either yet but I've seen/heard the figures from both and they're very similar.

Yuo can now get the Hurricane in Carbon Fibre, still much cheaper than the ITG. I've got the boggo alloy version, works a treat, doubt any heatsoak would make much difference to performance anyway.

Cheers,
Rob

dont worry about things like heat soak etc...its all marketing bull ! ...bottom line is the difference between the poorest aftermarket open cone filter and the best cold air system is like 3bhp to 6bhp and £50 to £350 ...you can hardly notice that with the bum dyno let alone the difference between a plastic filter and a metal one

A rough guide of what to expect from figures Ive seen on a Rolling road day at Emerald.

std car - 122-125bhp
+ exhaust (any brand) 128bhp
+ filter (any brand) 130-34bhp
+ cat pipe or sports cat 134-37bhp

each car is different from the factory - some engines are just better than others...but basically you are looking at 3-4 bhp from each bolt on, with the best cars making around 135-37bhp with all 3 and the worst 130-32bhp.

Ignore the marketing hype ! ...if each mod gave what it claimed then for 3 bolt ons you would have a 145bhp car !...which you wont, you will need headwork or cams to get that.

Many thanks guys. Info much appreciated. I think I'll be going down the Janspeed/Hurricane route. Let you know how it ends up!

I have the Janspeed/Hurricane fitted and am very happy with it. Once the exhaust has 'bedded' in you get a nice sound from it.

Cracking!!! Fitted the new Janspeed supersports exhaust (twin exit) and Hurrican induction kit at the weekend...dead chuffed!!! Sounds superb and pick-up/general performance noticably improved as a trip to the Autosport show proved! Recommend it to anyone looking to get a bit more from their car but not wanting to pay silly money. Think I've already annoyed several residents down my road though...early morning starts combined with a de-catted sports exhaust-ed Elise and a few rpm seems to have done it! Much obliged for the advice folks!

So how much did you shell out in total, if yuo don't mind my rudeness in asking?

Do you think it's worth doing the mods to the car, and does anyone knoe if thye affecyt reliability and general running quality.

I'm just worried I'll ruin an already fine car by doing them.

P.S Bell and Covills engine conversions look nice.............

nope and improve it

nope - it will be even better...sounds like a sportscar should rather than a sewing machine !

P.S Bell and Covills engine conversions look nice.............

www.race-speed or www.dvapower.com offer far better value for money engine conversions...and they actually deliver quoted power...the B&C ones dont

Do you know if B and C are any good at servicing, because they are about the nearest dealer to me that has a well known name?

good - yes....expensive - YES ! are nearly double what you will pay at a specialist like Lakeside or Sinclaires or even Wilsons Lotus (NE London) who all charge roughly the following

A £180
B £270
C £550

a guess at B&C figures based on a few Ive heard £300, £500, £800+

ring em up for a quote and see...think the labour rate is pretty extortionate

But in your opinion is the extra expense in line with their level of service and knowledge, not to mention quality?

no different to the others. My car goes to Sinclaires now the warranty is out...prior to that it went to Wilsons

I would not pay B&C rates for the same (or less) - if your car is not under warranty then Id head for Lakeside Engineering

About £495...parts only. (Fitted them myself which saves on the dreaded labour charges!) I would recommend anyone with an elise goes for the mods. I know there are several options on upgrading mechanicals within the block, but I was concerned about affecting reliability hence the more simple upgrades. Sound is already changing too...getting louder! But between 4500-6000rpm, sounds fantastic...almost race-car sound!
