Might be another dumb newbie question ('they all do that Sir') but has anyone noticed the alcantara panel in the drivers side door getting wet from the bottom?

I have had the car 2 months and it's been outside all that time (wife won't let it in the house) and it's had a few drives in the wet and a couple of washes.

Carpets/seats are all bone dry and nothing appears to be coming in via the roof, so am puzzled as to where it's coming from.

All advice is gratefully received.

My door gets wets in the same place. On mine it comes off the wet sill which has got wet from the leaking roof Its leather so just wipes off though.

How old is the car? Around 2001 S2's don't have a full water-protection sheet glued inside the door behind the cover, so water dropping inside the door (that's normal) would spatter off of the aluminium beam inside to door and drip down the back of the inside door panel.

As it reaches the bottom the water will start to soak the alcantara cover as it absorbs the water.

You may also find water pooling between the sill, rubber and the door (coming out in a splash if you open the door) if this is the case.

Later cars should have a full front-to-back sheet of plastic inside the door to prevent this happening.

Bye, Arno.

Thanks for all the advice guys. It seems to be drying out even though the car's been rained on all weekend.

I think it's caused by me getting in and out in the wet, which seems to cause a mini cascade onto the sill and which then gets sucked up by the alcantara. I'll keep a small towel in the car for this kind of thing.

Happy New Year

Chris

Isn't it strange how we spend 20k+ on a car and we don't even think twice on having to keep a towel in the car to dry up the leaks!
