Hi All!
Hope your not too after all the and of this fine festive time of year!

I write on here to ask your help. I am currently a TVR , of sorts, and i am feeling thats its time for a change of motor

The TVR i share with the BIL as i couldnt drive it everyday, cos i would be dead or in Jail

So i think an Elise it will be, looking ofr a nice S1 maybe a 111S. The only problem i can see is i would use it everyday for work, i 110miles a day and , while i know the elise is upto it, i dont know if i am

So..... Do you know who or where i could hire one or borrow one for a day or two to see just how noisy and dare i say impractical they are? I have seen loads of hire places in the mags but they only seem to have the S2's now and i really want an S1

So if anyone knows a nice dealer or a good company to hire an S1 from could you let me know?

Cheers kids and have a good one!

Oh and BTW i am in Essex

Mmm dunno about the hire situation. I use my Elise every day though for 3 hours minimum (1 1/2 hour each way commute) and sometimes up to 5-6 hours a day depending where Im going. I dont find it a problem...you do get used to it.

Im in Essex too - maybe pop along to one of the monthly Essex Lotus meets where you can meet lots of other owners and maybe get a ride in different specs to see which you prefer?

1st Monday of the Month is at The Anchor, Danbury, Nr Chelmsford

3rd Monday of the Month is at the Woodman, Stanford Rivers, nr Ongar ...both are from 7.30-8pm until kicking out time...usually a good turnout even in winter of 15-20 cars +

I think you really must be an enthusiast to own an S1 elise. They are loud inside and not a nice loud....wind..4 pot engine...clattery suspension. Funnily I get quite embarrased when I take passengers out and constantly explain that it is designed for the track etc and this is the trade off for flawless handling and performance blah blah blah!!

110 mile commute is ok but i don't think you'll appreciate the car if it is on motorways and dual carriage ways.

I have a 25 mile each way commute through empty country roads. In the summer this was fantastic. Looked forward to getting up and looked forward to going home at 5 pm.

Now the icy and wet weather has set in its less fun and not as safe so I have resorted to the motorway.

Its at times like this when I have been persuaded to put it up for sale. Then I do the country route on a dry day and change my mind. Then its wet and i change my mind again.

I don't think you'll need a weekend to test it. Just a few minutes will be enough to see if it is for you or not.

I want another TVR!

Love the liz but have recently been doing some very long journeys and just suffering. Probably my fault for decatting and having a silly exhaust but anything over 70, erm I mean 65, and it just gets uncomfortable. Of course you could try things like not decatting (boring) or having a hardtop (crazy talk!).

In general, fantastic car on the track and b roads, very economical, loads of pretty cheap upgrades, wussy in standard form (can still bite though), painful on motorways, I think Bogie's bonkers, but I'd do the same if I had the cash

Cheers,
Rob

I've owned a S1, an early S2 and currently have a S2 2002 111S, which is my every day drive. It's done 17 000 since I bought it new 15 months ago. If you are doing serious miles, my best bet would be go for a S2 - they are definately more civilised than the S1. Don't know what your budget is, but if you can stretch to a new 111S, they have just been fitted with more sound deadening and carpet, and you can genuinely hear the stereo and have a conversation!! I would have thought that the money you'd save on petrol compared to the TVR, it would pay for itself very soon!
I see your in Essex - as far as dealers go, have a day out to Blandford in Dorset and call in a Westover Sportscars - well worth a visit.
