Longest commute in an Elise?
Discussion
Hi there, I'm an ex Elise owner (series 1 sport 135) who is considering getting one again -the trouble is I've got quite a long commute nowadays.
I recently changed jobs and I now have a 36 mile each way commute, about 90% of which is on a dual carriageway. Would I be stupid to consider an Elise as my only car?
Is there anyone else on here who does a long commute in an Elise? How do you find it?
Thanks,
Stu.

Hey Stu
I commute just over 70 kilometers each way (45 miles ?) everyday in a 111R with broken airco
No problem for me and most of it on motorways with a stage 2 exhaust.
Am thinking about getting a TVR instead - not because I don't like the Elise anymore - just because I always wanted one really !

When I first got mine I used it for work for quiet a while clocking 100/150 miles daily.
I've recently bought a pair of earplugs for longer runs up Mways. Ironically they help the music from the stereo to become much clearer - its almost like driving an ordinary car with the lack of backround noise.

I have done some obscene commuting. This year it was a round trip of 200 miles a day for 6 months. Last year I was commuting a round trip of 350miles a day. No problem in a 111R.
The problem is you arrive a little "wired" and it may take a little time to calm down. First meeting of the day can be a little abrupt.

definately music and ear plugs are essentially for the daily motorway and traffic jam grind in the Elise

Thanks for the comments so for everyone.
It's definitely something to consider then.
Now then what type - I'm thinking 111s or the toyota engined s, definitely with aircon (budget ~£15k)?
Should be fine then. Besides which, you could always sell it and try a different strategy if you find you aren't enjoying it.It's definitely something to consider then.

I'd say, stick to a touring spec, modest exhaust etc and it shouldn't be too bad at all.
