Hi,

Can anybody comment on how simple/complex a task it is to change the wiper motor on an S1. Mine's knackered and I'd rather do it myself if it's a simple job rather than paying somebody 40 quid an hour...

thanks,

Matt

It's easy. But before we jump in at the deep end, is the motor actually shot or has the nut on the driveshaft come loose so it's not meshing with the mech properly? Check that first...

The motor is actually the same as that on the front of a Citroen ZX so might be worth checking the price of one of them from a non dealer source to save some wonga - if it is the motor and not the mech.

thanks for the feedback guys

i'm pretty confident it's a knackered motor, it blows the fuse in cold and/or damp conditions.

Off to a Citroen dealer this lunchtime...

In that case:

Remove the motor cover (2 screws and possibly some double sided sticky crap).
Unplug the motor.
Get a socket on the driveshaft nut and remove and pull off cam.
Get a socket on the 3 bolts holding the motor in place and remove motor.

Plug in new motor and make sure it's in the 'parked' position.
Bolt it in.
Ensure the wiper mech is parked (should be easy as you haven't removed the wiper arm) and bolt the cam on the driveshaft.
Screw cover back on.
Striaghten out your back...

On a similar note, my wipper blade on my VX220 is shot. Anyone got an idea where to get a replacement blade or just the rubber?? - they are 38quid at a Vauxhall/lotus dealer
Its a S1 arm i think, i checked a friends' Exige and it was the same - a rectangle block shape wher the arm.blade meets

Cheers CC

I'm pretty sure our friends at www.eliseparts.com do a direct replacement - it's in Upgrades at £22.95

Geary's includes the S2 arm, which IIRC is the same for the VX...

Get the latest S2 arm and wiper. It uses a more conventional 'pivot' for the wiper blade attachment.

Blades for the new arm are loads cheaper than the original S1/Exige/early-S2 wipers.

Bye, Arno.
