When my foot is on the accelerator the engine produces an odd 'ticking' noise between 20 - 30 mph. Can't hear a damned thing after that so I'm not sure if it continues...

I've just had a B service done at Sinclaires and I assume they would have picked something major up.

Should I be worried or not?

*sigh*

Does only happen when water temp is between 70 and 90 degrees and when you are using positive throttle as the car warms up on a cold day? If so, it's the charcoal fuel recycling cannister. It is perfectly normal and happens on every elise every winter.

The ticking noise you can hear is probobly the injectors. You will hear it every time you open the throttle at low speeds. Nothing to worry about.

Do you have the VVC engine? This can happen occasionally on that too and a hard blast sorts it out.

I have a similar noise, but I think it is coming from the rev counter. When ticking over you can here the clicking, corresponding with the slight notches of the needle. I think it is only when the cabin is cold. I though this was a normal "irregularity"...mmmm

Yes, it's a VVC engine and yes the ticking only seems to occur when applying positive throttle...

I appologise if I appear a bit dim but then I'm not as mechanically minded as some and as far as I'm concerned I'd rather have a car that worked than one that didn't, so it's worth checking things out that seem a little odd to me.

Thanks for your help anyway.
