Advice needed - S2 central locking problem
Discussion
Hi all,
Need some help ref the central locking system operated by the remote alarm plipper on my recently purchased 111s!!
When I try to unlock the car using the plipper the vehicle unlocks and then locks itself straight away, if I'm quick enough I can just about open a door between it unlocking and locking but obviously that's not the point!
Has anyone out there had the same problem or knows what could be causing this to happen? I've had a look at the catches on the doors and the pins that they locate on but can't see any obvious fault.
Thanks!

Is it the Cobra system?
To unlock the doors you need a short sharp press on the big button, and the plipper needs to be within range of the receiver. Despite a new battery and RF signal, mine seems to prefer proximity to the windscreen. Occasionally the doors do an 'unlock/lock' manoeuvre and have to be unlocked again.
More of a pain IMHO is the need to press the button twice to lock it if the car's been left unlocked for a while; once to deactivate the immobiliser (in case you;re about to get in and drive away), once to lock it.
Try a new battery in the remote too, as this will provide a stronger single and reduce the likelihood of you inadvertently doing a double press in an effort to get the sytem to respond.

Hi!
The system fitted is an 8186 Cobra which I think I'm right in thinking is the usual type for an '05 S2.
I'll be getting new batteries for both fobs tomorrow as a matter of course as I'm unsure as to when the previous owner last replaced them, currently I have to be standing right over the windscreen for any response though the last owner said that it'd always been like that. I'm pretty sure that I'm being as careful as possible as to only press the larger fob button once and I have tried both fobs, after reading your suggestion I think I might try a little harder!
On the plus side the weather forecast says 'no rain' tomorrow so I think I'll be having my first roof off blast soon, if I can get into the car that is.....
Thanks for your response

Yep def the module, have a look here:

Full part numbers and instructions. Did mine a few months back. Get in through the right hand speaker but do it yourself. A dealer will take the dash out and charge you £200!!

Many thanks for all your advice, changed the module a few days ago but..........Aarrrrggghhhhh!!!! It's still playing up! Only seems to unlock/lock itself if I return to the car soon after locking it, if I leave it for a while (a couple of hours or more maybe) then it's fine. I can also see the lock buttons on the doors twitch occasionally along with the sound of the locking mechanism trying to activate as I drive, though strangely this only appears to be the case for the first 10-15mins or so after starting the car up.....
Is there any more advice out there? Starting to get nervous about leaving the car anywhere other than at home in a locked garage now!!
Cheers!

Fixed it!
Actually, I fixed it a good few weeks back but didn't want to jinx it.... Long story short, I was also getting what sounded like an electrical shorting sound coming from around the heater control area, turned out to be the relay for the central door locking inertia switch mounted under the dash on the passenger side. It was fritzing pretty often and causing the lock buttons to twitch and occasionally unlocking the car after I'd locked it (!!) as well as not allowing me to unlock and then lock it after a short period of time, so needless to say that I'm pretty pleased it's now fixed and that all it cost me was a bit of digging around on the net and all of about £20 for the part!
Thought I'd pass this on just in case anyone else has the same problem in the future!
