Has anyone else experiensed an S2 roof leak/leaks. I'm about to phone the dealers up on Monday to pick the car up and fix it or will this be a waste of time cos' all Elises leak?!
The dealer told me prior to purchase that the leaky roof problem had now been resolved with the S2. Has he misinformed me or will the warranty give me a new roof?

Good to see that Lotus have kept the character of the original Elise S1. All I can advise is that you keep a towel in the car...

Ted, most S2s built after September 2001 don't leak at all (except for 3-4 drops of water on one side, in a downpour).

Get the dealer to fix it.

Lotus are VERY sure that the elise2 will NOT leak. If yours does, your dealer *WILL* fix it..... Mine leaked, this was the attitude I took, it doesnt leak anymore!

Ted,

That doesn't sound good, looks like Lotus may have sold you a bit of a dud. I'd get onto the dealership straight away to sort it out, these are not normal problems.

Ted,

These are all problems that early owners had (pre-September I think).

Basically, when you take it back, give them a list of problems and the dealer shouldn't have any problem fixing everything mentioned.

Mine still leaks very slightly if its parked out in torential rain, but dosen't leak whilst moving, so as mine is garaged I never bothered to get it done - just carry a towel.

i personally think half the reason for 1,000 mile service is to rectify anything that needs to be fixed!

Re SLK - I went through a similar thought process, but hated the SLK when I drove it, and it does have a bit of an image problem too...

My S2 roof is fine when I follow a few tips. Firstly, always roll the windows up fully with the doors open. Secondly, never park with the front of the car sloping downwards. These two seem to work for me. Also, get a shower cape if the car is parked outside overnight. Do men actually drive SLK's?!

I have a 1995 S4S and have been told my throwout bearing is making a chirping noise because it is dry. Is that a real problem and is there a way to lubricate.

Ted.
The locks sticking are common and easily rectified using a bit of wd40 in the lock and a bit on the key.

As for the pools of water in the boot and noisy fan... they are new ones (know preety much all of the S2 probs)

Dave.

You can't reject a car for such trivial problems until the dealer and Lotus have had a chance to look at it. 9 times out of 10, the roof leaks on the Elise because of incorrect fitment and adjustment. There are a few known problems and they are listed on my web site with possible cures.

Thanks for all the messages of support.
I took the car back and I'm getting a new lock set, a new boot seal and respray job under the boot carpet( the paint has apparently lifted aswell!)The windows have been remounted and that has improved the british weather (its not rained since)so I don't know that has fixed the problem. The noisy fan has not been attended to since it wasn't noisy in the garage!
I can't see me keeping this car for long since when the warranty runs out I'll be paying for all this.

Oh, by the way..... the sticky lotus label has dropped off the gear knob and there's an irritating resonant vibration behind my head between 2000 and 2800 revs. The leather protection finish I had put on seems to be coming out as a white layer in some areas of the leather seats and door lining.
Having said all that its a beast to drive and strangely I still love the little thing!
Am I nuts or should I through the keys back at lotus?
