Well, I put my VGC Norfolk Mustard 18k mile sports 135 engined (it was fitted when the car was born, not an aftermarket lash up) 1998 Elise S1 up for £14k in Top Marques this week, as well as on the autotrader site, and I've not had a single call. Not even a canvasser. I'm a bit surprised really. Looks like I'll have to knock a fair old chunk off, and try again.

Anyone else sold anything similar recently? Did it go for much below the asking price?

Ooh dear, looks like your topic titled "poor response" is getting the same treatment.

Thought I'd get you off the "0" replies tally at least since you're a fellow northerner !

northern boy, in my experience, when a car goes past a certain time it will take a massive knock in price.

however the way go you from here, can limit the knock.

before my elise i had a 1998 polo, which, after 3 weeks of trying to sell, didnt.

i stupidly re-advertised, to the same response.

some did contact, but had seen the prior advert and so assumed i was desperate (i was ). they wanted to push further than i was willing to go, and so was a further £25 down.

i stupidly paid Moto-link £80 to try and sell my car for 4 weeks . guess what? didnt sell..a further £80 down (and probably another £10 on phone-calls giving them shit).

at the end of the day it went for an auction. i got a little less than i expected (but above book price) and it was all done in a day.

what a relief! i know the feeling of trying to sell and sympathize.

my advice would be, dont do as i did (although an elise is quite different to a polo!) and rather go to a dealer and have them try to buy it, or do a part-ex on another car.

failing these, go to an auction, and put on a high reserve. you'll find that most auctions are bent, with traders, already buying cars before hand, so you could be lucky! atleast this way you'll get a price your happy with, without risk.

these methods, MAY, nay WILL lead to you getting a little less money than expected, however its all done, in a matter of days, and you can get on with your life!

phew!

thats got to be the longest/most serious post i've written..WHATS HAPPENING TO ME?????

i know..your all gay

aaaahhhh, thats better

right, im off to get pissed.

Thanks. Can't go for part-ex, as I don't want another car. I'm leaving the country for a while, and don't want a car sitting idle, being insured, and depreciating while I'm away.

I'm going to stick it in Top Marques at what I think is a cheap price, and I'll see what happens. I expect that the weather we're having isn't doing me any favours.

I was offered a p*ss poor trade-in for my standard T reg at the weekend, although this was from a trader who couldn't even be arsed to get out of his chair despite the fact that we were looking at a 14k car!
Just sat there and looked in his Parkers book..
<full rant mode on>
didn't even come and look at my car!!!
my g/f was audibly very rude on the way out though

Anyway, have you thought about ringing round a few dealers to see if they are in the market to buy at the moment? I would have thought that there would be a fair amount of interest in one of the factory upgraded models???

Best of luck though, CH

There's always E-bay of course...put it on cheap with the reserve you want; even if it doesn't sell you can negotiate with the highest serious bidders afterwards.

OK you will get time-wasters and muppets, but they're easier to deal with by email than in person.

A friend of mine sold his '97 P reg elise with about 55K on the clock for 11.5K a few months back and the phone didnt stop ringing, so youre not asking too much, its probably just the time of year.

Well, it's going back in this week at £12.5k. I don't think this is very much at all for a 18k mile 1998 Sport 135.

Hopefully, there'll be a fair amount of interest at that price, but, of not, the first signs of spring will be less than tghree months away, and it's taxed and tested until then, so it can just live in the garage for a bit longer.

Not a single viewing in a month so far, though. Had a bloke asking if it had an electric roof and air conditioning, (he was also considering an MR2), and one asking how it compared to his Z3(!, sadly, I was honest, and told him that if he wanted another Z3 type of car, the Elise was probably not for him. Suggested he try it, but I haven't heard back).

What is it with people!! when i was selling my mgbgt, i was asked by one guy how comfortable it was!!! i told him i had upgraded to spax, but all he was interested in was how comfortable and how noisy it was inside car!!! like your z3 buyer i dont know what these people expect! the guy was lookin at buying a 1972 sports car not a 1999 lexus for f*&^s sake!.

Likewise compareing the z3 to and s1 or s2 is stupid...it just goes to prove how stupid some people are i think..the s1 is obviously has a leaning towards the track...z3 are cool for hairdressers.

Anyhow hope you sell her soon and good luck-i appreciate how hard it can be tryig to sell a good honest car took me ages, and yes i sold it on ebay its a worthy option i would recommend you give it a go.

Well, I have a buyer at 13k, as long as the RAC inspection doesn't throw up anything wrong.

He's trying to knock some money off as it's de-catted. I've told him he can shove that idea, as the reason there's no cat is because it needs to flow a lot of gas to produce the high power output.

If he thinks he's getting a mint Sport135 for £12.5, well, I've decided it's not going to happen.
