Yep, I've seen a few like that. Once the car gets burning, the fibreglass and even the alloy chassis burn very quickly.
And that's why I have a fire extinguisher fitted to my car. I know I would have no hope of saving the car with it but it might buy me or my passenger an extra few seconds.

thats a damn good idea, Mr B. ill get me one of those. im quite astounded by it to be honest.
(to clarify any confusion, its not mine, but was stolen and then burnt out).
I zip tied my extinguisher holder to the passenger foot rest. Ideally I would have liked to put it behind my seat (outside edge, not between seats) as it'd be easier to grab, especailly if not in the car but my seat's too far back (I'm a big lad as Drag would say) and I figured if the fire's that bad already that I don't have time to grab it I'm not going to be standing round trying to piss it out.
No, you should NOT put it behind your seat, for two very good reasons.
1. The fuel tank is there so drilling in that area is not advisable.
2. The force of a good crash is likely to send the extinguisher flying around the cabin bashing you in the process. You do not want something that big and heavy hitting you in the head.
The Lotus approved mounting point is rivnutted to the chassis in front of the passenger seat. This is how mine is done - as per the instructions in the service manual. If you're really against drilling the chassis then the next safest place in terms of mounting it securely is probably at the passengers feet - but that's hard enough to reach at the best of times, you really need to be able to reach it if you are trapped.
Here's a pic of the inside of my car:
There's been a lot of discussion on this subject in the past on the British Cars BBS and on the Lotus Life forums. IIRC Lotus engineer Nick Adams was dead against anything but the approved mounting position.

It's not always that clean unfortunately! By "system" I guess you're referring to my head unit? If so then it's a Kenwood CD/MP3, much like this one: www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1988 (but with the 67 colour screen like this one: www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1990)
It's nothing special though, radio reception is utterly crap!

no, its a nice "system", i like it! only bad thing is (IMO) it stands out. cant see mine! (N.B. im not talking about my penis, if anybody happens to read only part of this post).
anyway, i bet you clean it every day, like my neighbour and curse when there's "dirty rain" marks on it!!
anyway, a few more questions regarding, said interior:
1) what is that light grey mark running up the driver door (over the window winder panel)?
2) your rear view mirror is grey

1. It's either a reflection of the camera flash from the rear view mirror or -- gasp -- aliens!
2. How dare you! (erm serious answer is that I think it's dark grey... or pale black - perhaps the camera flash scared it)
ahh now i see!
i just thought our resident mod, had been kicked out the house by Ms B, and was sleeping in the car. the mark being saliva, (or jism) from said, sleeping.
Trunkie, if you were a PI, id hire you to investigate, where the my tread has gone on the 5 month old advans im running im down to 3mm on the rears!
and finally, the reason i asked about your "gay" mirror is because mine is black . being both '99 titanium 111s, i thought i was missing out.
