Just recently purchased a S2 111S and looking to upgrade the lighting to a HID (Xenon) system. What wondering if anyone has upgraded their lights to an hid system on their S2 also. Would any hid system with a H7 bulb fit into the main light housing and are there any instalation issues I need to aware of?

Many thanks

Pardon my ignorance, are "dip beams" equivalent to low beams and "main beams" equivalent to "high beams" or is it the other way around.

yep - dip is low beam. The conversion kit is for those and then upgrade your bulbs in the main beams at the same time...and your driving lights too. Will let you know how I get on

What sort of price are you looking at? Are you doing both dip and main beams?

No - dips only, will make the most difference. Upgrading main beams to Phillips +...the main beam _ driving lamps is pretty good...you just cant drive like that all the time

Price is at www.elise-shop.com - cant remember what it is in UKP - you can get some discount if you are a memeber of SELOC ..roughly £400 IIRC ...not bad for a complete kit with ballasts....the bulbs alone aftermarket are £100 each...but are supposed to last the life of the car.

At the mo Im driving 5hours + a day in the dark so the decent lights will be welcome

i'm looking at the Bellof HID system, they claim that their HID systems fit in the standard halogen headlamp assembly (h7 for the dip beam on the S2) for most cars, including lotus.

do you know of any mounting, alignment, or other issues with the elise s2 that i need to be aware of or is it a simple slot the hid bulb into the standard headlamp assembly and connect to the ballast and pwer supply?

Looking at my installation manual it does just slot in, mount the ballast, and wire up so you should be fine. Maybe get them aligned somewhere properly afterwards who has a beam aligner (bodyshop maybe?)

S2 dipped/low beam is H1
High/main beam is H7
Driving lights (in the air-intake) are H3

After some research, just purchased the Mcculloch HID system, since they provide complete sets (i.e bulb, ballast, wiring are all from Mcculloch), not as mis-mash of parts (ballast and bulb as from different manufacture).

The colour temp of the system I purchase was 7000K - very purple (yuk!, make the S2 look like it should be in the movie Fast and Furious) ) when one turns the light on initially, but settles down to a pure white after 2 seconds.

Highly recommend the Mcculloch system, as they guaranteed for two years (most other brand are only g'tee for one).

How come you didn't go for the brighter 4500K system, that seems to be cheaper as well? Green tint though might be a bit odd.

Cheers,
Rob

What's the news on the HID system you fitted? Can you let us know where you purchased the McCullough system, and for how much? Thanks

They are great - got the kit from www.elise-shop.com - easy to fit...but get the beams aligned at a bodyshop etc with a beam aligner...hardly use main beam anymore now ! ...about £400ish - dips only though....if you want main beam too then I guess it would be 2x...then theres the driving lamps....

oops - re-read thread...got confused - thought you were replying to me !

cheapest kits Ive seen are here www.vagparts.com/

to be honest they seem pretty generic in what you get - Im just wondering if these are a straight fit on the Elise - the Elise-Shop kit was put together especially for the Elise...but if theres little difference then maybe one of these kits would fit
