Have just bought an Elise S1 & needless to say its a complete work of art. However, coming from a background of driving only FWD cars (with the exception of a MK1 MX5, oh the shame of it) have already been caught out on a few occasions in the wet where the back end of the car has attempted to replace the front. After looking at the tyres (on 16 inch original equipment Lotus rims) the tyres are some Korean rubbish. Not withstanding the fact that I should have looked at the tyres when I bought it (come on I was buying a Lotus at the time) I wonder if anyone can suggest some replacement tyres, which unlike P Zeros & various Yokohamas, at least give you the opportunity to drive in a straight line during icy/wet road conditions.

Yokohama Advan Neova LTS tyres are all you need for happy driving in all conditions.

Edit: plenty more on the subject if you search past threads. This one has some good info www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=22204&f=15&h=0

could always go for the 1st lotus option and use them up in a day of driving sideways before changing?

I am comming up to needing a new set but not sure i would like it (super sticky rear boots) if it caused more of a tendency to under steer on power. I quite like the current balance where you can induce the degree of over steer?

any thoughts welcome

Right thats it then, Yoko Advan Neova LTS it is. Birthday on the 20th of this month, so wonder if I can drop a subtle hint to the relatives that rather than a set of socks/handkerchiefs this year, Id like a set of 4 new tyres instead.Cheers.

Super sticky on the road is generally not too much fun, especially if they never get warm enough (no idea how extreme those Yoko's are, but stuff like Dunlop R's are a bit lethal on the road). Korean rubbish is not standard however - see www.elise-faq.info/content/tyres/index.php.

On the other hand, no tyre is going to give infinite grip. Oversteer is part of the driving experience, especially in the wet - and the way to deal with it (IMHO) is driver training! Something like a Don Palmer day or RideDrive course? You'll soon come to realise that you need more power to safely overcome the grip in the dry
