The S2 is the best looking for me , it takes the image and personality of the S1 and adds aggressiveness. The whole car on the S2 has been tidied up inside and out. The finnish is a better quality and it feels more solid.

The S1 looks a bit 'friendly' to me....but is a classic design that could have done without the cheap fittings (lights etc) - some bespoke kit would have made it look better IMO.

I dont like all the bits on my S2 - fake plastic vents cant go, front wings Im not sure about, I like the rear and the sides though...soome of the design drawings for it looked great...then they didnt make it like that !

Personally I perder the S1. More curves rather than sharp angles. (relatively speaking)

I REALLY didnt like the S2 when I first saw it, but it's really grown on me now. Best view is rear 3/4.

i really like yours though Mr B.

probably due to the rear diff and black+gold ensemble.

black is THE colour for the S2, easily. shame its not a good colour for such a car, i.e. stonechips etc.

Robs, black with black also works well (heard your exhaust mate). damn its good.

for the S1 i think titanium is best (me and Bonce sorted then) but also azure blue and norfolk mustard work well.

Definitely S2 for me. It has a little more agressivenes in the design that the S1 doesn't.

Having said that the S1 Exige is a car I could sell my soul for, simply fantastic. Shame the proposed S2 Exige simply doesn't do it as much for me.

Probably S2 for me! I actually really like the back end of the S2 - not the view from the back, but the whole rear clam.
Plastic fins... no comment. Also not keen on the Lotus badge instead of the the silver L O T U S lettering on the latest model though - looks too much like an anus.

Undoubtably the S1. The styling owes more to classics such as the Dino, Europa and GT40 and it's far more coherant than the S2. I agree the S2 front end is good, but then I think the Exige is even better. Speaking of front end, the S1 looks more in touch with the road, somehow the S2 seems to hover above it like a 2CV...all very worrying!

Black is the best colour as it hides all those plastic bits, the Type 72 is best IMO. In the long term I think the S1 is a more lasting design, which has already achieved classic status. I reckon in a few years the S2 will look very dated.

In short Lotus designed the Elise as a new generation Seven. If that's the case the S1 is an S3 Seven, the S2 is the S4!

I much prefer the S2 which is why I spent the extra money to get one over an S1 I think its a lot more coherant than the S1 aided by the bespoke parts and the tidy arse (which looks crap on an S1, especially with the integrated spoiler (which does just that)).

maybe,

but the spoiler on the sport 160/111s rectifies this spoiler problem, no?

Its still a dumpy arse, although yeah the second spoiler hides the integral one and improves it.

In the end who cares. At least people don't look at S2s and think 'kit car' (/stirs pot with shitty stick!)

That's amazing especially given the Testarossa style fins on the S2 sides, presumably sourced from a Renault Clio Max Power bodykit?

Kit car slurs aside at least the S1 looks like a Lotus and not some dodgy Jap import.

Bogie, how's the splitters compared to Tigga's? You got the Alvan ones IIRC? How much and how was dealing with Alvan?

Dragstar, can't help but agree that black on black looks good, and I frikkin' love my exhaust now

Cheers,
Rob

Amazed that the roof has not been given a mention or is that too easy a target?

Parked next to a S1 on tuesday and its a realy nice car but was one of the main reasons I went for the S2.

If you like going topless then it has to be easy to put on.

is that really an issue though?

is it substantial enough to justify, choosing one over the other?

maybe for you, but for me, its a means to an end.

No its not key but did help push me toward the S2 as did the bigger boot - the Mrs needs more than a spare
g-string and tooth brush.

But both S1&2 are a bit of a pigs ear when you compare it to something like the Elan tub. Or any convertable thing currently in production.

I like having the top off as often as possible (ie when its not raining) and use the car on visits and commuting. So in theory I may need to take it on and off 4 times a day - hence me investing in a shower cap for summer.

I keep scketching a sectional folding hard top - but as yet I have not found a way to get the bits to nest together.

I think a solution may be to go hard top with a removable section that would fit behind the seat should be easy £900 of pattern hard top and rip into it with a Black and Decker jigsaw and Robert is Mums brother!
