Does everyone out there declare mods such as induction kits and sports exhaust to insurers? A dealer told me not to bother because they dont make massive performance differences. How heavily do they affect premiums?

Kinda depends if you're feeling lucky! Insurers might decide not to pay up for non-standard parts if not declared or might decide that the fitting of them could have had an effect on the reason for the claim and leave you completely high and dry.

Usually don't add very much to the costs though. As ever it's all about peace of mind.

Cheers,
Rob

yep - declare everything...if you have a prang then they will use any excuse not to pay out.

You are an honest lot .

Sound advice though. I just hate giving those scumbags my hard earned dogh.

Ive experienced how much hassle it is to get pay out on mods etc when they ARE declared ..let alone when they are not!

If you dont declare the mods you might as well not bother with insurance! The courts, unfortunately, side with the insurers on this one and they will rarely pay out (even third party claims) if a car has been modified. Hit a working father whilst driving a modified and undeclared car and you'll be supporting two families for the rest of your life...
