Looking to pick up a 99 111's this weekend and am having a mare getting quotes. I have tried:
- Esteem - Won't quote me because I am only 24.
- Adrian Flux - £2,000
- Footman James - £2,100
- Tesco - £1,600 (but need to get a Tracker fitted).

I have had a license for 7 years, have 4 years no claims, have made no claims in the last 6 years and have only(!) 3 points (SP60) from April this year.

Are these kind of numbers usual? Has any one got any suggestions as I am starting to get a bit desperate!!!!

I think it's your age that's clobbering you here so not a lot you can do. But.....

Footman James do a policy affiliated with Club Lotus, have they given you this? Don't worry if you're not a member now, just join when you get the car.

Can you limit the mileage? I pay £400 a year for 3000 miles a year but I'm 28.

Do you have another car - you can add the Elise as a second car on the same policy and that might put it down a bit.

Try a few brokers and tell a few porkies about the quotes you've had - play them off against each other to try to get them beating each other.

Try Elephant, Admiral and Hill House Hammond

I'm 24, 99 Std S1 with a claim (non fault) earlier this year knocking me down to 1 yrs NCB (long story but I'm fighting!), 12000 miles pa, driveway in Kent and I''m paying £1400. I added my mum to the policy and it went down 200 bucks!

is the tesco's quote too much?

although a tracker is asked for, you dont "need" to provide evidence of such until a claim of theft is made (i assume..probably wrong). i have tesco's insurance and due to the parking of my car (behind a van, which is behind a beema...oh and it doesnt have a steering wheel) i DID consider getting the policy without the tracker.

obviously i didnt do it (because its stupid) but if your "desperate" then its a possibility..you could always get a tracker later, no?

Cant beleive Tesco - they dont require trackers on some Elises, but do on others !

I pay £1400 with 5 yrs protected, 6 points, 25K miles a year, 33 years old so £1600 is about as cheap as you will get it at 24 !

Thought 1600 was quite reasonable I know people of the same age driving a Nova getting hit for 900+

I got £1,100 from Tesco with four years no claims and the RAC tracker.
I think you are beter off getting the tracker and paying the subscription because you will save it on insurance within two years.

In my experience of policies given on the condition of a certain security device being fitted, they will request a certificate of fitment and withhold theft protection until you give them a copy. They will give you a couple of weeks grace to get the car and get the tracker fitted but not much more (sorry dragstar )

Bogie, I seem to remember someone posting on here a while ago that Tesco require a tracker on all new policies but not renewals.

yeah, that sounds right!!

only reason i suggested it, is because i lost my certificate of fitment and the deadline for providing evidence of such passed.

i sent it off and phoned to ensure that they received it. i asked the bloke what would happen if i didnt send it in, and he said that id be covered for everything except theft. if theft occured and i had the tracker (just didnt send it in) then id still be covered, so long as they see the certificate during the claim procedure.

like i said, its a really stupid thing to do, but a possibility if you are desperate!!

I have just been back to Tesco - On the phone this time and been quoted £1042 . So much for the Internet being cheaper.

The only caveat being that I get a tracker fitted. Has anyone got any suggestions on which make/model and service to go for?

I paid £1100. 2 yrs NCB, 24, sleepy area. Age, area and points are clobbering you by the sounds of it. Try elephant.co.uk they've consistently given me the most competitive quotes.
If they say Tracker they may well mean Tracker, and not any of the other systems.

Costs from £408 to £999, see here

Alex,

You will find you need a minimum of Traker Monitor which is the middle of the range..

Ian

P.S.

Did you try Barclaycard ... cheaper for me this year and didn't need a tracker

The dealer I'm getting mine from says that the RAC tracker is about the best out there.

I remember my mate telling me something about this but I didn't believe him. If you add your parents to the policy the premium goes down? How does that work? Does it cost any money to put your parents on the policy?

Nada, just added her in when I took out my policy online. Didn't ask fer her NCD or anything just her age. Tried lots of permutations - dad, girlfriend etc - the only one to come back cheaper was with my mum.

Edit - Note she will NOT be driving the car!

she probably won't be able to get in let alone drive it or if she's able to drop in she definitely won't be able to get out. I can't imagine my mum doing it.
