sorry, i cant contain myself (oowww put it away )

but im due to get my manifold, CRP, short shifter and gearlinkage kit fitted on wednesday!!
i was busy last night wrapping the 'fold in heatwrap!!

anyway, i was just wondering after i get them fitted, what will be the first thing ill notice when i get in and drive off? smooth gearing? more noise? manifold-related changes??

tell me, tell me, tell me!!!

bonce? dan? arno? cuzza? rob?

cheers

I would imagine (as I don't have any mods on mine at all) that the gear throw will be shorter and less clicky than it is now.

It will be a lot noisier particularly without the cat (don't forget to oput it back for the MOT) and you may notice that with the free flow manifold and no cat the engine braking will be less as the back pressure in the exhaust will be reduced by all the gas getting out quicker. So, simply when you ease off the throttle the car won't slow down as much as it did before.

manifold and cat pipe = more raspy sound, maybe some popping on overrun, increase in volume = more fun through tunnels !

Gear linkage + quickshift = slick fast, positive gear changes...I would never go back to std setup...feels agricultural in comparison

Well the CRP will defo make the most noticeable difference imho. Although if they bugger up installing the gear linkage you'll also notice a stupidly tight gearchange action!

Manifold will result in you getting more oomph midrange, CRP will help the top end. Your engine will sound top What exhaust have you got at the mo BTW?

You will feel like da MAN!!! Of course it still won't be perfect, so much more money needs to be spent

Rob

Hmmm, in which case I can see you going for an Elise Parts exhaust before you know it.

I believe that's what Bruce has lurking at the end of his tubing.

Are you planning on getting up to NORLOG this Sunday? Not sure if I'll be there or not as yet, always a last minute decision for me - duvet/cold/duvet/cold...!

cheers

ok just had everything fitted, and im quite pleased with the results...here are some observations:

1)noise...more of it..alot more...sounds really good, even at idle.
it has a more "throaty" growl than before and sounds GREAT through tunnels

2)performance...noticeable difference from 3k revs to about 5k revs. it doesnt seem to "struggle" or slowly increase power at these rev-ranges. instead the acceleration is more potent and seems more solid.

3)gears...the space between each gear is shorter but im not sure about the linkage kit as of yet. the change is still a bit sloppy and the stick doesnt always engage the gears when stopped.

however bruce says, a little time is needed to "bed-in" the joints and that the coldness has an impact on the "freeness" of said joints.

im still not sure though.

it was very wet on my way home and as it was rush-hour i didnt have a chance to really "gun it" and see what its like. maybe tomorrow.

all in all some good modifications but for nearly £1000 other cheaper modifications can be done, giving more power.

only snag now is, that my boot-release bar doesnt work..any suggestions guys?

The linkage kit does take a bit of time to wear in and may need minor adjustment once it has.

The CRP and manifold should have given 3-5bhp and picked the midrange torque up a bit so you should be able to feel it a bit with the bum dyno.

Typically a std car + exhaust, induction, manifold, CRP will be around 130-35bhp so a useful upgrade over std (most std cars do 122-26 ish on a RR)

For £500 you could pop some cams in there and get another 10-15bhp which is much more noticable. After that its onto headwork..then throttle bodies and ecus...and down the slippery slope you go

Ahhh...if you have VVC then its headwork and DTHTBS etc...but an S1 VVC (usually 143bhp) should easy make 155-65bhp with those mods...enough power for most people

Cool, glad you got everything sorted! I'd hoped to pop over sometime but work was being very inconsiderate!! Did you stay with Bruce all day or escape elsewhere, the delights of Macc's amazing shopping centre perhaps

Re the linkage. Give it some time like Bruce and Bogie say. I'm still not 100% certain about mine being spot on but once things are warm it generally slicks nicely into gears!

Cheers,
Rob

me and a mate went to a pub and he (embarrasingly) got lashed on....2 pints (hadnt eaten all day though).

after a couple of hours there, we went back to bruce's in which i tried to sober him up.

chatted with him for the next few hours, hes a nice lad!!

he kept on going on about how he found it hard to believe that, you apparently fitted an exhaust yourself??..."how the did he do it, in his garage..."

i found that quite amusing, and asked if hes going the run on sunday..hes got a wedding, but ill probably still go!!

had a good day aswell.

p.s. how did you fit it? it seemed like such a bastard job..and hes got a pit!!

It was a bastard

Car rear up on ramps and me crawling underneath. The best bit was I couldn't get the link pipe to fit first time so I had to take it all out again and put the old manifold back on just so I could get the car off the ramps just so I could close the garage door over night - aaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!

Hoping an all new exhaust will arrive tomorrow so I can have some more fun under the motor

Glad you manage to entertain yourself in Bollington, there's quite a few pubs to choose from!

Hoping to get up to Norlog on Sunday myself assuming it's not p1ssing down and my duvet isn't too heavy!

Cheers,
Rob

I wouldn't worry, I've never been up that way myself, other than straight past on the 62. Also my tyres are a little low on the tread front so I'll have to take things a bit easier if its wet

Cheers,
Rob
