Hi guys/gals, I am a newbie Elise owner (today!!!!) and of course have the huge grin plastered over my face just like the rest of you. Just wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to handle speed bumps before I scrape the front end? Is it best to straddle with both sets of wheels or try for the two on two off approach?

You can just drive over them if it hasn't been lowered. Otherwise you can drive across them diagonally, but you'll look very silly if your car isn't low enough to justify it.

i have lotus sport suspension..mine is really low!!

i do the 2 on and 2 off approach, and just drive really slowly!!

there is no scraping at all, and so you should be fine using this approach.

Hit them fast and you fly over them 70mph is about right.

Joking aside I was very careful until I got used to them should be no problem unless your braking as you cross or hit them too hard which will compresses the suspension and lower the ground clearance.

I have fitted the front number plate to be lower than anything else on the car so that acts as a warning.

Otherwise you can back over steps etc where the nose will hit.

thanks for all your advice - It was a great help. Look out for my next question - How on earth do I manage the Le Mans weekend with just that tiny boot? regards,
Chris

Sorry to be silly guys but I get my Elise in a week, and are we talking about the bumps that go all the way across the road, or just the ones that are square shaped?

I guess we're doing the all the way across ones.

I hate the little square buers. I reckon the car would have enough clearance to go straight over....but you never know, so I go slowly and pop one side over the hump just to be sure.

Also I have the front number plate a little lower than the leading edge of the front clam, so a little early warning at manouvering speeds.

i was refering to the square ones (hence 2 wheels on and 2 off) but the "procedure" doesnt change for these other types...just go slow and you'll be fine!!

Thanks, I pick up mine on saturday and I don't want to ruin the underneath within half hour of driving the car.

Watch out for those very thin strip of rubber type speed bumps you sometimes find in access roads to schools, sports clubs etc. They may look innocuous but they caught me out recently.
