I Own a Mk2 elise and would like to find out the cost of literally changing the colour of the car from its present colour sapphire yellow to gunmetal. Its a 135r and lotus will only do em in this colour now.

I want to do this because I had a titanium Mk160 and much prefered the more subdued look of the car. I imagine the only way of getting a good finish would be to replace each coloured panel on the car with a new one in gunmetal. Does anyone have any idea as to how many panels are involved and the approx cost?

Thanks

It can be done, but it'll cost ya!

Rather than replace each panel, you'd probably be better off having it all resprayed. Some panels aren't actually removable (the sills) because they are bonded to the chassis. Have a word with Sinclaires - www.lotusrepairs.com/

They resprayed one of their own cars to be metallic blue/purple flip flop paint which looks fabulous but was quite pricey. A plain colour like gunmetal or titanium would reduce the cost quite a bit I should think.

Don't forget to consider the effect a colour change will have with regards to your V5, which states the colour of the car...

Easy, about three cans of aerosol from Halfords should be enough, a good choice of colours are available, should cost no more than a tenner

Word of warning: Choose a calm day or the paint could spray back in your face....
