Speakers sizes..any ideas on upgrades??
Discussion
Hey all...im getting closer to buying the elise! just cant find any good info on speakers in the s1! would like to upgrade them to a good make, so i may actually be able to hear them!!! so can you tell me any info such as specific model nos of good speakers that fit? or can you tell me specific sizes that will fit..looked on the usual places and on an ice site but lotus not in the makes!thanks in advance...saw some nice s1s and 2s at william bristol yesterday especially a nive silver with red roof was it yours???
you could try putting a bass-tube in, instead of up-grading the speakers (if you have them already in). some pre-fitted speakers are very good-they are alpines.
these fit behind the seats and are amped pumping more power through the speakers. made a massive difference to my car.
try here for them:

its the silver one near the bottom (£117.00).
if your elise does not have speakers already in, then your probably better of going to a specialist to get done. well i would anyway

I replaced my S1 speakers with Infinity 652i speakers which cost about £60. The difference in sound quality is amazing even though they're only 6 1/2 inch cones but you'll never get great sound in a noisy S1 with a sports exhaust!
Fitting them was a few hours work and involved removing the seats and speaker pods, and mounting the new speakers through the plastic rings that hold the grill over the crappy alpines that come with the car (slight dremelling required) in order to provide enough depth for the cone. End result is pretty neat and doesn't look bodged.

Thanks guys helpful as ever! so bonce the infinitys you stuck in are 6.5"? right?? thats what i wanted to know! brilliant, i would most likely get them fitted for me makes life a ton easier!.
Im not sure about the subs in an elise really, people would get the wrong idea about me as i look younger than i am!, look like one of those 17 year olds driving around in a badly modified saxo..you know the ones neons and bass..
Anyone got any kick ass stuff like ps2 or tv screen in an elise??!! ive never seen a fully iced up elise yet!...

i think i remeber seeing your install on a page here was it you??!! like i said im not sure about subs in an elise, for the above reasons (saxos, neons etc) i alos just thought of the security issues, with the convertible and all..
Just looked at the link, i have seen that site before and i was wondering what size the sub is! must be t i n y !!! my friend has the pioneer TSWX20LPA (the model below yours on that site!) and its quite a beast...
it wasnt my install, but the sub isnt really a security issue as it really cant be seen.
it is quite small, but calling it a sub is mis-leading.
there is an increase in bass, but its not huge (cant be heard outside). the main benefit, is the amp means you can hear the stereo above 60mph without fuss. the light can be turned off aswell.
if your ever in the north west ill show you what i mean and we can have a

ive got a proper stereo in my Elise...mainly due to doing about 25-30K miles a year in it and getting bored on long motorway journeys Ive always had decent car stereos so when I got the Elise I had to get it sorted. Sounds great - 118dB in car if needed - can hear it roof off, any gear, any speed even with sports exhaust etc.

I know Andy Benbow over on SELOC has a similar setup in his S1.
If you want an off the shelf solution then try www.elise-goes-hifi.com/

LOL - the infamous 'Handbrake Sleeve of Shame' has been around a while - awarded to club members who spin the most on a track day - I only had it on the car a month before someone else got it
No - its not free air...its a custom made sealed enclosure...its only an 8" sub so runs in quite a small box...Sinclaires made it out of MDF/fibreglass for me...its deceiving...actually lost a notch of seat adjustment as it is deeper than the std rear panel
Speakers are Phase Linear up front, and Infinity Kappa rears, but in the process of fitting some Phase Linear Aliante 8" mid bass rears to fill out the lower midrange some more.
Didnt add too much weight either - car weighed in at 774Kg wet at Emerald when std cars were like 765-770Kg ...guess you lose a bit with sports exhausts etc so its kinda offset the 10Kg or so of stereo...anyways Im not a racer and would sooner have decent tunes when Im in the car 20hrs a week !
