Elise Mk2 and Alfa V6 engine
Discussion
Hello,
I am considering an engine replacement for my Elise Mk2 and saw the article about the BRG /Alfa V6 replacement here in Pistonheads.
Does anyone have any 1st hand experience with this job? I am especially interested in how the handling of the car has changed (weight diff.?). I suppose, the mentioned job has been done on a Mk1 so far only, but unfortunately I haven't received any direct answer from BRG yet ...

Not too sure if the v6 is worth it due to only having 200bhp for all that extra weight. Turbo technics conversions (superchargers) will give up to 260bhp and retains the near standard weight. This will give much greater power to weight ratio and keep the fine handling in tact. Also resale value will be poor for all that engineering work. At least if you change to another elise/exige the supercharger can easily be swapped over. Alfa engines are a tad dodgy too over 20,000 miles:

I was thinking along similar lines before although came to the conclusion about the power to weight raio. Now a BMW M3 engine with 343bhp might be interesting, or how about an evo with 340bhp,mmm...........

Or a Honda R type B18C5 fit like a glove, standard 195 bhp, and not alot of $$$ to get it up to 240 bhp +, and if you spend stupid $$$ 300 bhp, nice gear box/diff too.
The k series is unfortunately expensive to squeeeezzzee more power - heads, valves, throttle bodies etc etc.
Heard rumours the Turbo Technic's super chargers, have a habit of blowing up on a regular basis, anyone with experiance that can prove this little rumour wrong ?
TT have the right idea, pity it's so expensive !!

I have tried the forum before to see if anyone had experience of the TT or any other super chargers going bang, TT do porvide a warranty (which is extendable), I have been speaking to them with a view to getting SC done soon, in time for Le Mans on the basis that I surprise the odd Porker and Ferrari (up to a ton at anyway).

PTC - keep us informed would be good to here the results, I'm still researching the R type replacement engine, even though I could some heat from die hard Lotus fans ? I'll keep the K engine for when I have killed the Honda !! good luck with TT, there out of my price range..............
Seems that apart from the odd mag article particularly on the TT SC's , e.g Autocar, there appears to be little feed back from actual owners who have had either conversion done. The odd rumour circulates that they go bang, but it is purely that, a rumour. I would like to hear from any one on either score i.e. go or bad experiences of the TT SC or the BBR turbo conversion.
TT have done some 40 plus coversions, so someone must have an opinion out there?
