Hello

I had 2 Europa with the 225 Lotus ECU, which failed under 1500 KM !
Another Lotus dealer than mine said that it must not only beeing fitted at place of the 200 one, but has to be re-encoded or computer-adapted to the engine.
I go next week for the third ECU, and want to be sure now !
My dealer said thad th Lotus factory knows the problem, and sent new remapped one...
So what ???
Thanks,Gil

The rumour is that these fail more than they work..

Hi Gil

I have not heard of any problems from the Europa owners I have spoken to and touch wood mine has been fine for a couple of years. If Gooby is right and there is an inherant problem with these units then it is really down to Lotus to sort. If not then perhaps there is something wrong with your installation. On race cars the most common cause of problems with the ECU is vibration becuase the AV is not working properly. I would talk to the garage and see if Lotus has a problem with these or is these something not working correctly with your car. Could be vibration but more likely for a road car is probably water ingress. You could also ring a few other dealers and get their views. I am sure if it is a common problem then the other Europa owners on this forum will say something.

Good luck with it

cheers

I've had the 225 ECU and now done 7000 miles on it with no problems at all. I've not heard of anyone else with any problems!

The 225 is ECU does indeed need the Lotus Scan Tool to reset it and make it work with the car it is installed in.
If you fitted it at a Lotus dealer then I am sure that they followed the correct procedure.
If you want I could send you the pdf of the official installation instructions that Lotus send to the dealers. wink

I wouldnt mind a copy of that ??

When I purchased my Europa, I was told it had the ECU upgrade - I have the email as evidence.

I've not got the upgraded brakes so could be a bit of a porky...

Anyway to actually check ??

Cheers

ECU problem what problem, I have now done 17,000 miles without the car missing a heart beat in all weathers including the torrential rain we have had.

Hello guys,

many thanks for your helpful replies. Went to my official dealer last wednesday to refit the new 225 ECU. It works for the time, and they confirmed me that other four customers had the same problem than I... Also confirmed that Lotus had a remapping problem with a few series.(!?).
Crossing the fingers for the future, the car is so fantastic and charismatic to drive.
I'll send pics in a few days.
