Hello all!

I think I might be in a position to buy a used Elise soon but I need to know if I will fit.

I am 6'5" tall and I guess this might be a problem.

The dealer is not far from me but I thought I would ask here first.

Is it worth the extra and go for an S2?

I'm 6'4" and am currently looking for an S1. I test drove one at B&C is Surrey and had no major problems. Main difficulty was getting in and out of the bastard!

I found my knee was a tight fit between the wheel and gear knob when in fifth. B&C suggested shortening the stick and I also believe fitting a bent stick can help as you can angle it away from you?

You can get a quickshift kit from Eliseparts which allows you to offset the gear lever to the left or right which might give you some extra space to 'manouvre' (sp?). Quite a few of the owners on here have it fitted and they say it makes the shift much smoother too.

As far as driving it goes, you should be OK, I'm only 6' but I drive it with the seat 3 or 4 stops off the back so there's plenty of room.

Cool! I am taking a test drive of a 2002 S2 Race Tech in Quartz from my local dealer (SGT Lotus, Taplow)

It's got 10,500 miles and they're selling for £22,999.
Do you think I can get a discount on this?

I'll let you know how I get on!

10,500 miles and £23k. Ouch. I suspect if you bargain hard you should be able to get a good discount on this, after all it is getting towards then end of the summer season.

FYI I paid £20k at B&C for a 2001 ST with only 8,500 on it (inc a further year warranty), so bargain hard. I don't think there was much price difference between a ST and a RT.

Hopefully you'll love it as much as I do mine. Bought with 8,500, now up to nearly 13,500 in 5 months. It's been fantastic fun.

STs are worth more than RTs. Also if you are tall a removable steering wheel apparently helps a lot as it moves it a little closer to the driver and thus higher.

I keep meaning to get one as I have long legs relative to the rest of me, so the wheel is a bit of a reach

I'm only 6'2 but the addition of the removable steering wheel made changing gear much easier.

No, you don't have to remove the wheel to change gear.

Alex

PS I've got an S2 TT190 converted Elise for sale at the moment and luckily it has just such a steering wheel.

Mmm unfortunately I have to go through Dealer Finance (IF I get it!!)....

I have heard good things about the TT conversion although I would prefer the Type R engine. Some guy in Holland did it (?)

Well, don't let the dealer _know_ you have to take their finance... threaten them with the bank rates, and they should do their best to keep the rate as competitive as possible
