Hi all i have recently seen an s1 advertised in its decription it said " cheap to insure due to classic insurance". This was on autotrader web site.

Due to my age and i may well be getting an elise i would love to know who the company is or indeed if any companys do similar insurance deals like that!

Over to you guys..

When I had mine I was under a "future classic" policy thru Autotorque, Basically my rate dropped from 1600 one year to 800 the next when I went onto that. I think you had to have turned 30 (which I did that year) The other thing was that I did not use any no claims either IIRC..

Hi and thanks ! my problem is comeing from a classic insuarnce which doesnt use the ncb then when you try to insure a beast like thi sthey aint to happy!

This way suits me better especially if i could get an agreed valuation to, it makes life so much easier...should the worst go wrong as it often does..

Do the lotus owners club have a web site??

Thanks again

If you speak to Footman James, their policy is for Lotus Club members, so when you arrange the insurance, join the club at the same time (costs very little) and call FJ with your membership number when you get it.

I'm insured with them and it costs qabout £300ish for 3000 miles a year and I'm 28.

Spoke to autotorque today, wasnt sure what to make of them! upon initial contact seemed "up in the air !" he took a few details then said "ok i will call you back.."i sat back and thought yeah right they never do..

5 mins later he rang back to check some more details..and said i will ring you back (this was around 5:15pm to!) sure enough 10 mins later he rang back and stuffed my best quote so far by over £200!!! if i joined the lotus club! then we had a natter about his exige !

So moral of the story is if you contact autotorque about insurance just stick with them!!! and im sure they will do there best to help unlike some other major companies!

Its a funny old world isnt it. Auto-Torque use the Footman James scheme, it should be exactly the same quote but with Auto-Torque commission, lots of it, loaded on top. So i couldnt see any point in using them whatsoever. But if they turn out cheaper than FJ then i have no idea what to make of it !

So Footman James is cheaper than Autotorque? Which did you go for and how much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking?

Just paid 665 with elephant.co.uk, I'm 31 with full no claims. This did include a load of mods though, exhaust, induction, interior and exterior changes. Not bad considering a Ford Focus used to cost me 320!

Worth every penny though.

I have had my 'old' V12 Daimler insured with footman james for a couple years, Its about £280 a year with a 5000 mile limit. As someone else said, it aint worth looking around for a new insurer
