Tracker advice please.
Discussion
Having owned my S2 '03 for nealry a month now, I am looking at some paperwork.
There is a tracker fitted but inactive. If I recall correctly for three years it was about £350 + £30 registration fee. They would waive the reg. fee when I spoke to them. This then lasts me for my ownership of the vehicle.
It lives in my garage, and I live in leafy Worcstershire, so do you think it's worth it? I need to do a few other things to it so money is a factor of course.
Thanks.
Nick

Based on the horror stories I've heard on other forums I'm not a big fan of trackers. Plus, at least I hope, I consider an Elise to be a low risk car for "joyriders" or opportunistic thieves. Plus, it's not a particularly high value car so I would assume not going to be stolen to order.
If it were me I wouldn't bother. Much better spending the money as a one off on a really good alarm system.

One of the terms of my policy (Churchill) was that I HAVE to have an active tracker fitted. They also had to see the tracker license.
I agree though, Elise seems an unlikely car to target, and also difficult to drive away (not going in to detail here, but the security is fairly solid)

I wouldnt worry about it...you can count the stolen Elises on one hand !
its just the insurance companies that cover their arse...and usually only a requirement for those insurance companies owned by the group that own Tracker too .....so you can see why you must have one eh ...lines their pockets and protects their pockets...nothing much to do with you

if a thief with no experience of getting in and out of a Lotus could manage it in my garage then i would give him the keys.
I have had trackers on all of my cars and not activated any of them, indeed for some bizzarre reason one insurance actually put the premium up becaue it had a tracker.

I had to laugh a few years back, Sinclaires (the bodyshop and repair place - to give you a clue) were broken into and 3 cars stolen, 2 of which were Elises IIRC. Both were found within 2 miles, 1 crashed, 1 abandoned :lol
...a bit dumb really stealing broken cars from a repair place ...I think they were still 'under repair' and missing vital components like steering arms and toe links ...one of them had been rebuilt and was ready to go...it just hadnt had a geo after a full suspension replacement, so it was so far out, it wouldnt drive in a straight line !
..you really have got to hand it to these people

If your car is garaged when not in use, and the fact that a Lotus isn't a typical TWOCer's car I wouldn't bother, save the money, neither does it make a difference on your insurance.I have just sold my TVR Sagaris it had a tracker but not activated, I will be picking up a brand new Lotus Exige 240 super sport this Thursday, I won't be putting a Tracker on this neither.
I work for said company and can not remember the last time i saw an Elise on the list of high risk vehicles i have one on my Elise BUT this is only because i have spent a lot of my time and money on it .
Something which made me laugh was when i first went to insure my car with a Honda supercharged engine and modifed brakes suspension fuel tank dash so on, the quote was less than the previous insurer and they did not give a hoot about Tracker being fitted .
spend the money on toe links or brakes .

one can but hope they did hurt themselves....but more like it dented their pride and (hopefully) appetite for stealing cars ...oh how everyone chuckled at the time...i mean, stealing cars from an accident repair centre...that were still indoors being repaired ...doh ! bogie said:
