These Yoko's as per the above link read very well for the description. Shame they're Lotus dealers only. Anyone know of an online source for these? I have a good guy that can fit them professionally for me.

I have an S2 and my driving will be all seasons as a recreational car (hell, I might take it round a track once or twice!).

My two local places have quoted me £450 for the set of replacement Bridgestones. The car's done 28k miles...do you think they are an original set?

Any input would be welcome.

Nick

Anyone?

Trouble is I don't have a clue what to ask for. smile

I won't be tracking the car (at least I don't think so), and have only had it for ten days or so.

Currently have Bridgestone Potenza REO40's on there, and they will need to change soon.

Maybe we all look for the 'perfect tyre', but I need that for my mostly weekend cruising, and hacks into the welsh borders Sunday mornings wink

I have searched about the forum, but have found a strong bias towards choices for track rather than changeable roads.

Hi there,

I have a 06 111R. I am running the Yoko's AD07's from a Lotus dealer. The car has just had a fresh set of tyres on the rear after 14.5K, and the front's are orginal and have plenty of life.

I use the car mostly for long road trips, and with that comes Rain. These tyres seem good in all conditions and I would recommend them. Again these are fitted to 06 cars and beyond, so I guess they must be slightly better grip than the Bridgestone's (Harder wearing tho).

I am no expert tho!

For a standard S2 it comes down to Bridgestone RE040 or Yokohama AD07 if you want to run the tyres developed for the car. Having run both types, I prefer the Yokohama. Worth a trip to your local Lotus dealer to try the Yoko as they make the steering feel a bit lighter.

Thank you all for that.

The Yoko's seem to get more praise overall, but I have to buy from a dealership right? I don't have a lotus dealer near me... is there a work around for this?

Thanks.

Sadly they are the wrong size. (175/17 vs 175/16)

Yokohama are exclusive to lotus dealers AFAIK, worth ringing a few and see if they'll mail you a set? Bell & Colvill have them listed on their website (455 quid for set of 4 inc vat).

Last week I paid £139 for 1 replacement Bridgestone, so the prices quoted on this thread seem pretty competitive.

I used National Tyres simply because they're nearby, and could get the tyre within an hour, but I'm sure if you shop around you could get cheaper.

Two places - Hanger 111 advertise USA Spec AD07's - No idea if they are the correct ones http://www.hangar111.com/ckshop.php?page=2&cat...

I got mine from Lipscomb's and good price - maybe they would deliver??

Hope that helps.....

I recently switched to Toyo R888's gong up a size on the fronts to tackle some of the understeer.

We've got a great tyre company locally who did the full set for £500.

Now I've lived with them for a while I would summarise as follows:

1. Incredible increase in traction under cormering and braking compared to the stock bridgestones.
2. Possibly slightly weak and bouncy side walls although I'm not sure if this is just because I can push the car much harder in fast corners now. Maybe I'd benefit from upgrading the shocks.
3. Wear rate isn't great but from what I've read they'll last better that the Yokohama A048's.
4. "Interesting" in the wet as they are almost cut slicks but fine for me as I'm a fair weather driver :-)
5. They warm up reasonably quickly even in cold weather unlike what I've read about the Yokohamas.

Just my 2 pence worth.

This is where I got mine, they delivered to my local garage for fitting along with some new pads. Perfectly good on the road; steering is light, grip is excellent, good grip in the wet, and we'll see about wear. That's on a '02 S2 111S.

I won't be having another set though. Fine on the road but just can't seem to get any grip out of them on track.

Are there not situations when driving on the road that resemble hard turns and cornering on the track?

This is a considerable saving on the Yoko's, but I don't want to settle for 'second best'.

Nick, I note you are in the West Midlands.

Paul Matty Sportscars can source LTS tyres (so they tell me) and they are very near to where the Lotus Dealer was (Nick Whale - before going Ferrari) in Bromsgrove.

Try them on 01527 835 656 - very friendly and enthusiastic bunch, should give you good advice?
