K&N Fitting Guide?
Discussion
Check out these:
57i instructions:
www.elisenet.plus.com/KN.htm
ITG instructions, mainly for original fitler box removal:
www.hangar111.com/Workshop/ITGFitting.htm
I fitted a Hurricane which is great, the hardest part is getting the old box out. It's all easy after that. If you go for the 57i you might want to get some ducting fitted between the side intake vent and the filter to get some more cold air in. Wickes do some 4" diameter aluminium tubing which is perfect for that sorta thing.
Cheers,
Rob

There's a good guide to air filters here:

also asking on the more active Lotus forums will help muddy the waters no end

Like I say I've got the Hurricane which I think is great, adds a little to performance definitely and adds a little to the sound. Most people seem to tthink the 57i just adds to the sound as opposed to any performance. The ITG and the new Reverie carbon fibre jobs are just bloody expensive but might add fractionally more power than the Hurricane.
All around cheapest option is to go for a K&N panel filter and just mod your existing air box wo have a large intake pipe that doesn't twist so much. Have a peek here:

I have a K&N 57i on my elise......
1) Definitely the engine feels less strangled (though that could be psychological )
It makes a very cool sound under full induction
havent bothered with the additional ducting, as I couldnt be bothered. Its certainly better than with the standard airbox. It might be better still if I ducted the air to it properly but I cant be bothered
cheers

Totally agree with Nightmare.
I have one on my S1 and got it just to free up the revs and improve the sound which is great. It's been in for about 3 months and sounds better all the time
Simple to fit once you get the old airbox out and the best cheap mod you can do for the money IMHO
