look mate i actually worked for vauxhall and i was sub contracted to lotus at the time of elise and the vx220 was being built, on the same line, built with the same parts, except engines so basically you paid for a name, and it was well known at the time that the vauxhalls engine complimented the chassis better than the rover derived engine. so basically what i said was right,

You are talking nonsence! The elise is better around the track & looks better!tazz666 said:

Little scrap of advice: Pay closer attention to what Mrs. Hall teaches in her English classes once term resumes in September.boobles said:

You are talking nonsence! The elise is better around the track & looks better!Lotus had a great deal - get someone else to pay for them a new larger capacity production facility, in return for building a few cars for them
theres hundreds of threads on here and every other Lotus/vauxhall forum discussing the merits of each car, so lets just leave it at that
many people prefer a Jag X-type over the Mondeo, they are a few grand apart but basically the same chassis and engines, so the Jag is a "posh Mondeo" to some as the Lotus Elise and Europa could be posher versions of the VX220 then? .....but of course the VX isnt the mass production car that sells in the tens of thousands, no it was just a marketing exercise to get Vauxhall some cred, and never made it into real volume for some reason....
so thats it, SEOT, the VX is just a cheaper, softer, version of the Elise of the time, for those poor skint buggers attracted by the 0% finance over 3 years and such like as Vauxhall needed to give them away to sell em, it was a chance for those people to get into a great little sportscar.
For those that dreamed of owning a Lotus ...well most just went out and bought one as badge snobbery is still one of the greatest marketing tools out there ...just ask Aston Martin and Ferrari

If I owned a VX I have no doubt I'd enjoy it, but I'd feel it was lacking something. Thats PART of the reason why I bought the lotus.
If you ever get to the point where you could own one maybe you'll know what we're talking about.

I found myself mainly lacking problems with dealers, engines, things falling off and high servicing/maintenance costs when I owned mine? Is that more the things you were thinking of?
I've found mine pleasantly cheap to run compare to what I was expecting, I keep mine serviced with a specialist and to date have had no major problems (touches wood). I respect the VX220 for what it is and have no problem with anyone who has one (in fact I respect them as a fellow petrolhead) but I dont agree with attacking anyone elses choices based on my own prejudices(like taz666 has done). The lotus elise is what some people want and the vauxhall vx220 is what others want - its horses for courses.Gassing Station | Elise/Exige/Europa/340R | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
