Not being on here too long, not posting a lot, heres a story, hopefully to make you laugh. I didn't but resigned this one to humor.

A month ago had an incident on the way to work. Minding my own business, honoring the white paint defining one lane to another a flat bed transit decided to become one with my pug. For some reason mr pikey as i'll refer to him as Mr Pikey, caused a bust mirror, score and dent in my pugs front wing.

Pulled over as honest people do, met with the response of you fcensoredn pcensoredk (in a sort of Oirish accent) woi did ya censored droive into mi censored, oim naat censored admittin loiabiliti. After a reminder that a white line does not mean i'm in a transit, on a mobile everything is your fault, got down to 'oim sarry, oil pay ya but not goin thro insurance'

Being stupid thought ok exchange details anyway, which mr p replied, I aint givin ya mi censored details. Oim a trader, just bought the van ya see.
I replied well wheres your trade plates etc.

Bloke eventually gave me his details, address Sherwood drive.........
I say thats it i want the Police here, but mobile flat..... I ask to borrow his and get censoredcensoredcensoredcensoredcensored as a reply. Take reg plate, description, land line and a name.

Ring pikey and he says, get an estimate, have the work done and i'll pay ya. But by the way, the land line does not work, missus not paid bill.

Ring police saying i've been stitched up, they say claim on your insurance.....

Get estimate, mirror alone is 80 quid so total 200.

Ring pikey, he says i'll meet ya. Arrange time place and funnily enough no show. Ring mobile number and never heard of the bloke.

Lesson here - charge your mobile every night, ring the police and never trust anyone in a commercial van with a Oirish accent, even if they give you their word.....

Good job i was not in my pride and joy.... shoot

I think I got the gist of what you're saying;)
If you have the registration mark of the van then your insurers can get the details of his insurers (if he's insured - google askmid). To be honest the best you'll probably get is 50/50 liability as I'm sure he'll give a very different version of events. I commonly see head-ons on one track roads where both paerties ae stationary at the time of impactlaugh
Unfortunately insurance relies on people being honest - an increasing number unfortunately aren't.

Just claim through your insurance if you have the guys Reg no and name , they will do the rest . Insurance company will know and so will their engineer that you never hit him with your O/S mirror and the O/S side of your car on a single lane road .

Love the accent! That made me laugh. sorry about the incident though, at least it doesn't sound too costly but that's no consolation i'm sure.

It reminded me of a recent run in with a pikey. Unfortnately i'm prone to stereotyping them now, they just don't live by normal rules of decency.

Sorry that happened, not sure the 'oirish' accent generalisation does your cause any favours.

If he was black would you have said "Never trust a black guy in a van"? Would you have used the N word, or spelled out his Nigerian accent?

Thought not.

What? You are a little sensitive.

Never told an englishman, irishman and scotsman joke?

It isnt racisim, it is looking at national stereotypes. EVERY country in the world do this Americans do this with the Polish, We have the Irish (and Welsh)(and Americans), the french have the Americans, the spanish have the Italians.

I sold a helios blue cav mk2 cdi auto reg c808ldm to a BLACK raster from toxteth. I am 100% sure the name he gave was false. The car is no longer taxed or sorned, and should he crash into you he will give a false name and disappear laughing.

There are sections of the community, white, black, irish, pikey, etc who are scum. A greater proportion of some groups are more scum like than others.

Actually i was only seeing if i could get a rise out of him. When not drunk or robbing people, we Irish are famed for our sense of humour.

Anyway i'm sick of crashing into English Men who can't see under the brim of their bowler hats, or who are so busy opressing other countries that they brake too late.

it just isn't cricket. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/4.gif

Sorry to hear this happened to you

The post is entitled 'proves the stereotype'. The implication is that the stereotype is true, is it not? What is that stereotype then, is it something to do with dishonesty and Irishness? Why would anyone get annoyed with that? I wonder.

mate you will learn about posting things on here. You can put something on with absolutely no intention of offending anyone but some sad geek with nothing better to do and totally without a sense of humour will get the hump and faster than any Olympic athlete will jump straight onto his/her high horse.

I once posted something about Margaret Thathcher and school kids milk but because i forgot to put a smiley on my post to indicate i was joking people wanted me hung.

Dont let any adverse comments to your post put you off posting. It is a forum for Christs sake.

  • edited to put smiley in that shows ive got the hump in case of confusion.redface

Isn't that the thing about freedom of expression though? You can say what you like and I can challenge it. Wonderful eh?

Looks like this has been taken, not in a way intended.

This is not a go at the Irish, would be silly of me as my Surname is Irish, I have some Irish blood and I have relatives in Ireland.

The opening sentence indicated 'to make you laugh' meaning comedy/humour etc.

The term was used widely in Snatch. I found it funny, but i'm sure others didnt.

There has also been debate on the term recently, since Martin Brundle asked Bernie Ecclestone, "There are some pikeys there at turn 10 putting tarmac down - what do you think of that,"
see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7555728.s...

All I can say is.... my 3 separate dealings with the alledged steroetype? over the years have involved the same accent, same dishonesty. This one and another 2 where removal of property not theirs was involved.

Sorry if your offended, learn to laugh things off as they are intended.

You'll be finding roadsigns designed by children in the 80's offensive next.

"After the show ITV received 22 complaints from viewers over the remark while Ofcom received 14"

I can’t believe that 36 of the buggers could actually read well enough to find ITV or Ofcom in the yellow pages ....
