Knocking Noise
Discussion
Hi guys.
In my 97’ S1 I can hear a knocking noise when I go over some bumps – it sounds metallic like it could be the exhaust maybe????? However I heard on the “grapevine” that in some early elises there is a tendency for the handbrake cable insulation to wear away and this could be hitting the floor pan. Another theory is that the panels underneath are rubbing?
Does any of this sound familiar?
Thanks again

I have something very similar in my 2000 S1 111s. At low speed there's a distinctive knocking sound almost as if a bolt has come loose and is banging against the undertray. I have taken out as much of the internal workings as possible and have tightened every screw, nut and bolt I can find to no avail...I can only assume it's either the exhaust knocking against the undertray or something else I can't easily get to.
Oh well, as long as I drive over 60mph everywhere I can't hear anything anyway!!
It could be the one of the bolts holding the seats down, I noticed they come lose regularly in my car and they can make a racket.
