clunking under hard braking!?!?

When braking fairly hard I feel the front of the car (S1) lurch down a bit and although not quite a clunking there is an audible difference in the front travel.....feels lik something is rubbing after taking the excess load.

Should I be concerned? Is it steering rack or something else??

any help is appreciated

Very possibly the pads moving in the calipers. Try getting some pad buffers from Eliseparts and see if that sorts it out.
