Cross-post from Seloc,

Well, I picked my car up from MSC last night after leaving it there for a couple of weeks for my chargecooler to be fitted.

I had a look at all the various parts of the kit before it was fitted a few weeks ago and have to say it was extremely nicely made.

The kit was then all fitted last week including a change from 8psi of boost to 9psi, with a smaller pulley. It's a very tidy install indeed and there's not much to see really. The car was taken to TDI on Wednesday this week to be mapped and it made really good power and torque.

I took it out for a brief blast last night to see what's changed. Basically, the car now pulls much harder than before and feels a fair bit smoother and less restrained, making it even more deceptively fast. The engine/induction/charger note also sound completely different to before, being deeper and with less of a whine.

I'll really be able to see what difference it makes on track at Snett next Wednesday, but as far as I can tell after a short drive, it's a very worthwhile addition to an already brilliant engine/supercharger package

There's no point in pictures because you can't really see much. In fact, if you didn't know what you were looking for, you wouldn't notice it at all.

Just had one of these chargecoolers fitted onto my exige racecar, I was shocked at the difference it made in terms of lap time and the H.P increase indicated by my DL1! Well worthwhile in my opinion.

Your car's making awesome power by the looks of it.

How come it was being mapped on Wednesday if you've already used it in a race recently. Were you just re-mapping it with this new throttle body I've been told about or just making some fine tweeks?

Just trying a few things to optimise the gains now its run in properly. The car is only running low boost so we could have gone for much more power but I wanted to keep it reliable for Britcar endurance races. The charge cooler has certainly freed up some HP and its showing good torque but mainly I think its allowing the car to sustain that HP for the race duration whereas before it would 'drop off' a fair bit as the heat built up. It will be interesting to see how it goes against the F430's and the 997 cup cars at Snett in a couple of weeks time. I have a suspicion it might surpise a few peoplewink

I look forward to seeing the race results.

Are you there on Sunday 20th at the same time as the LOT series then? If so, I'll be cheering you on.

Yes should be there on the 20th.
Only 7 PSI up to Wednesday but maybe a bit more after scuffers 'fettling'this week.

ID be interested to know after the scuffers tinkering at the weekend what the different engine temps are now the charge cooler is fitted between 7, 8 and 9 psi if you run it that high...

I have mine going in for the charge cooler very shortly and i wasnt sure whether to leave boost at the standard 8psi or increase to 9psi...? Obviously i would like to keep it reliable same as you. Mine is mostly road use with occasional track days in mind...

LOL.... I love the fixation with boost....

The object of the excersize here it to use as little boost as possible...

at the end of the day, I am not going to let a car out running anything I regard as remotly tenous, I have not blown up a customers car yet and I'm not about to start now.

Currently, Jamie's (and others) is as far as I am going to let them out at the moment (on stock engines), cleary in time I will review this when I have a lot more long term running data to work with.

Most of the testing of this kit was done by Dave/Tim/Peter/Jeff in Aus for the last few months, we have been pushing them far harder in 40C+ ambient temps in the interest of data capture and testingmapping stratagies etc.

Steve's is a little different, he went for a built engine, so I have had to do quite a lot of work to re-jig stuff for it, hence the second day on it at TDi. Realistically, Steve's engine has quite a bit more headroom for more power, but this will require quite a few changes from the 'std' setup, something I am still working on int he background.

just so you have some idea where this is all at:

http://www.dyno-plot.co.uk/dyno/dynoplot/id%3D498_...

lowest is base std NA install though to Steve's, all on TDi's new Rotatest (so directly comparable)

Thank you for the info Mr Scuffers, apologies if you took my 'boost' comment the wrong way as it wasnt intended to cause a stir biggrin

I was just interested really in the different running temps. As you stated above ive never heard any bad stories of you letting customers cars leave with niggles still needing investigation etc, im just curious whether to leave mine be or make the change whilst in the garage if i may end up doing it anyway in the future saving money long term...

im probably just going to learn to drive the thing first and not put more power in i dont really need tbh, charge cooler with 8psi is more than enough for me!

two questions...

1) how do you know what boost you are running?
2) why do you think your running 350Bhp? (no way you can do this with 8Psi on a stock engine)

I havent actually got the car back yet buddy, i just assumed once the charge cooler was installed that psi on the sc would be kept constant at 8psi... And regarding the approximate figure of 350bhp, that was a guestimate based on a few other installs that have already been done by various people having using the same spec as mine (sc + dc5 + charge cooler). obviously when i get my own dyno graph back then i'll change that to the correct figure. Maybe i should tkae that off but i didnt think it was that far fecthed, maybe i was incorrect, sorry mate...
