hi, just thought i'd give you an update.
lotus quoted me £250 to remove the scratch so i thought i'd have a go first and if i made a mess lotus can fix it (whats another £20-£30 when the bill is that much?)
i got lacquer from halfords and an empty touch-up pot (nice lads at the team valley branch) as advised from lotus as the one they supply is very thick (the halfords one is very fine).
when i went to pick the paint up from the dealer one of the blokes "let-slip" that they often just touch up scratches first and that usually suffices (before respraying).
i raced home and got to work, applying little thin coats, then t-cutting etc etc. finally i applied a little lacquer.
the result? absolutely fantastic!! i can JUST barely make out about half a mm of the scratch (and thats if your about a mm away!!) and the rest is perfect. it has dried now, and after a good wash its still perfect. the touch up pen was £7 and lacquer was about £3. so £240 saved and i'm shite with paint and "technical" work.
point is if you're in a similar situtation, have a go yourself, as you might save a fortune. if it goes pear-shaped you can always wipe it off before it dries.

its in a little see-through tube with a fine nib and fine brush. nothing written on the side apart from the halfords logo (with a grey backround). just ask at your local, im sure they'll know where it is!
my "local" is a ripspeed one which is alot bigger with alot of modding gear for 17 y.o.+
you may have to find one near to you.
