Hi All,

I need some help from some resident UK folk!!!!

In the event that I move to the UK, I would very much like to buy an Exige, but would finance it. What are the typical finance arrangements that would befit a young professional (I am a CA). In South Africa, most banks do anything from 3-5 years instalment sale, and massive deposits up-front are not essential.

I would love to be put in the picture!

In addition, as a 27 year old, what would my annual insurance be approximately on a 32000 pound new Exige?

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Nick

I thought you wanted a GT40 replica ;-)

Finance deals are available, but you pay through the nose. Most popular are PCP plans at the moment 'Personal Contract Purchase' - pay a deposit, 24 instalments, then a substantal 'balloon' payment to own the car at the end.

It is cheaper to get a loan from the bank.

Whether a loan is approved, wherever you go, depends on credit history and your own personal circumstances. Coming from a foreign country counts against you slightly (they like you to have been in a job/owned your own home for years, if possible), but my girlf came from SA a few years ago and has managed to amass a few cheeky debts!!!

You'll just have to give it a shot.

Re insurance, again much depends on your driving record, area you live in. Being a beancounter will count in your favour here, but don't leave the car ungaraged in the middle of Moss Side, Manchester etc etc if you want a small quote.

I know how little help answers can be without ballpark figures, so assuming you are a regular guy in a regular area, budget anything up to 2000 GBP for insurance. It may be a lot less, but lowest would still be about 700 GBP as far as I can see.

If you limit the miles, up the excess, you can get cheaper policies. Also, kit car insurance is much less. Try Adrian Flux for the GT40 if that's a goer, Privilege for the Exige, perhaps.

Hey Domster,

Thanks for the reply.

GT40, Exige....Man, I just love cars!

Story is, the GT40 was selling for a good price so I thought I would buy it and enjoy it for a while, perhaps bring iot over to the UK, and then sell it.

The car I really love, and want, is a Lotus. I am particularly partial to the Exige...good looker and performer.

...but getting to the point....I went to test drive the GT40 this weekend...and...I couldn't fit in it. The chap at the dealership failed to inform me that I needed to be 5ft to get into the bloody thing. My legs were jammed against the steering wheel, the gear shift was under my knee...it was a shocker!!!

I did however start her up, and she sounded OK, although I agree, that V6 is a problem. While I was there, a chap arrived with a suped up Cobra, sporting a lovely sounding and obviously worked 302 5 litre. What a sound! It must be awesome hearing that sound come out of the GT40.

Anyhow, that's it from me! Thanks again for the replies.
