Advice Wanted : First Elise Purchase
Discussion
Hi all
I am hoping that somebody can give me some advice and ensure that I make the right decision.
I am about to buy my first elise in the next couple of weeks.
I have found the following at a Main dealer and I wanted to see what people thought
2000 160 Sport Elise
Hardtop
20,000 Miles
Leather
CD
£19,250.
I know that the price is prob higher than privatly but I am happy to pay that for the warranty and peace of mind.
Basically this car would be my main car used to communt to work (round trip of 25 miles per day) and also weekend blasts. Is the 160 a good Elise for this? I have heard of people getting remapping done (?) how would I tell if this was done?
Thanks all
Ben

I've never driven a sport 160 (I have an S2 111S with about 160bhp though) so can offer the following advise:
The milage won't be a problem - you may even save some cash on fuel > 40mpg is not out of the question.
Nice to have a hardtop (although I've only used mine for a total of 2 weeks since Jan)
Get an Elise and you'll look forward to driving into work - probabaly end up taking sceneic routes wherever possible!!
Price looks ok to me, seeing it's from a dealer.

Hi
My drive to work is a nice route anyway so it will just get better!!!
I have found out that this 160 Sport does not have the Sports Suspention. Does anyone know if this was a good or bad option.
My other option is a Regular 2000 Elise
7000 Miles
Hardtop
Leather
CD
I am going to see both at the weekend.
Anyone here selling there elise? I want one NOW!! The waiting is already annoying me

Hi Ben,
I think the Sport 160 has a reputation for being lumpy on idle hence the remapping.
Have you seen the buying guide on PH:
www.pistonheads.com/lotus/elise/Default.asp?storyId=3917
And yes, mine's for sale
www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=12471&sc=90PQ&s=12
No hardtop but when are you going to use it!!! I personally like being able to whip the roof off whenever the suns out. My recommendation would be a well cared for standard S1 in Azure blue...
Commuting over that distance would be fine, I wish I had a job that required commuting in mine.
Whatever you decide, enjoy!
Chris
