Thinking about buying a second hand Elise as my main car but worried about mileage, I do about 10,000-12,000 motorway miles a year but can only afford a 3-4 year old car with 20,000 on the clock and will need to keep it for at least 3 years.
Does anyone use one everyday or have one that they ve done 60,000 + in, if so have you had any problems or faults that I should know about. Everyone Ive seen advertised have less than 50,000 on the clock does that mean they wont do the high miles??

There are some cars out there with over 100K on the clock. I've seen a few with 75K on...

Silverstone sold their track cars off with about 50K of "racing" mileage so I think average use like you are expecting won't be a problem at all - after all it is just a K-Series.

Find yourself a good specialist to look after it for you and enjoy! From your profile I believe your in Northhants so I'd suggest nipping down the A43 to Bicester to see Brooke Kensington www.brooke-kensington.co.uk for your serviceing - they might be able to sort you a car out too!

Mine has 51k on it and I have had it 5 years, I have had a carpet fitted as I do a lot of motorwar miles in it for work. Only problems I have had to get sorted in 5 years are a sticky handbrake cable , snapped boot cable, replace rusted head lamps, steering rack gaiters and track rod ends (the latter 2 being due to a crap batch of rover components) other than that no problems at all, and I have tracked and hillclimbed it a couple of times too! It is the most reliable car I have had after my chimaera but I only had that for a year!

mine has about 50k on, and is pretty reliable, the when there are problems it's usually die to lotus fitting cheap components, so as the car ages you continually upgrae it,because oif this i would almost suggest buying a chaper odler car, as they will have had various problems fixed, personally after my recent experince with lotus i never plan to buy anything new from them again.

It will happily do the milage you suggest, on motorway driving the engine is hardly stressed, but try one out for the noise, oh and it will do 40-45mpg
