Hey guys I'm new to this place and about to embark on the exciting, if a little daunting, business of purchasing my first S1. Just a quick question before I do, I'm 6'3" and weight 13.5 stone, so I'm not HUGE, but will I be a little too tall for the Elise?

Please say no!

My friend had one for a couple of years and had no major problems ad he's similar in build to you.

Visit a dealer and make sure they leave the roof on!

I am the same build as you and have an S2 - absolutely no issues with getting in and out or being comfortable. The car fits like a glove in the words of Jim Carrey!
I test drove the S1 at the same time last year and only noticed the following "issues" for someone our height and build:

1 The sills are higher on the S1 meaning that you coulnt lean your "accelerator" Knee on the sill, mor against it!

2 There seemed to be a space issuebetween your knee and steering wheel and the gearstick in fifth.

The first was a bit uncomfortable and not resolvable, the second was probably just down to it being the first time I had driven any elise:

Only observations, neither of which detracted from the joy the car delivers. Onyl reason I went for an S2 was a good salesman! The S1 really grows on me more and more each day!

Few issues tall people face is steering wheel pushing on knees. You can resolve this to an extend by getting a quick release steering wheel boss as this moves it forwards and up a few cm.

Also you can get a quickshift gear stick and offset it left if you find your left leg fouling when in 5th normally. The quickshift stick is about 100 quid or so and adjustable to you can offset varying degrees (not too far I guess or maybe it will be annoying for passengers).

Went to Bell and Colvill on Sat and struggled my way into a nice S1 (not an elegant affair with my bendy legs all around my ears!) The driving position is superb with the only problem being the knob on my knee (oooh err) when in fith. The sales guy there says they've shortened the knob before for tall people and I read elsewhere about the quickshit idea. The QR wheel is also a good idea...thanks guys
