Elise thefts?

Do Elises get stolen much? The reason for asking is that my insurance is up for renewal, and has gone up for the first time ever (and by almost 20%). I have 7 years worth of no claims (4 of that whilst owning the Elise), but do have a pending no-fault claim. When I queried the reason for the new premium I was told it was because of the high number of thefts of 'that type of car in your area'. I was under the impression that Elises were actually very good in that respect (I've never heard of any going missing).
Currently the car is kept on the driveway, but apparently keeping the car in the garage, behind looked doors, blocked in by another alarmed/immobilised car wouldn't drop the premium at all.
Can anybody recommend an insurer with common sense?

No, Elise thefts are relatively rare. By "that type of car" they probably mean sports car, rather than Lotus Elise.

A large number of write offs and expensive prangs combined with Britain's lovely new litigious culture are more likely to be to blame.

Many of us insure with Esteem (01483.706051 www.aon-classiccar.com) though reasonable prices seem to be available from some of the big name companies, obviously depending on your circumstances.

Probably the impending no fault claim. Until it's settled they'll hammer you anyway they can. You'll get it back once it's settled (probably). Any claim no matter what will give them an excuse.

I am currently with one of those big names, and had until now been largely pleased with the premium I was paying.

The other party has admitted fault, and the representative on the phone insisted that wasn't the reason for the hike, but I am suspicous. It's impossible to get them to commit to anything of course...

Time to give Esteem a go, me thinks

My insurance has been exactly the same - no claims etc and every year it goes up for the same cover so this year I changed from Tesco who were previously cheapest for my modified S2 doing 25K miles a year to Barclaycard as they have an offer on at the moment to beat your renewal, and reduce it next year by 10% so long as you dont have any claims....even if you already have full NCB...also the excess reduced from £650 to £100 with no increase in excess for more mods
