after three months or so of Elise ownership I still can't decide whether I love it or hate it!!! - the truth of course is both.

so I'm considering jumping ship and getting something a bit more practical (M3 / 911 / impreza etc).

gut feel tells me that I'll get the most for the car by selling now - but I'm tempted to wait until the winter, so that I enjoy the whole summer.
anyone got any ideas as to how much the value will drop in winter vs summer?
the car is a 98S, bought for 12,250 with 36k miles.

On a car of that value I guess upto a g.

Issue is more that there are less buyers in shit weather so people do stupid discounts at times to shift them.

I think 'summer prices are higher' is a myth.

Alot of people in summer think its the best time to sell their convertable, so what you have is over-supply of cars being advertised and this has a habit of holding prices down.

In the winter, reverse is true, people think they will wait till summer to sell, fewer cars are advertised and consequently prices remain high.

So, I dont think there is much difference between selling your car in the summer or winter due to the weather effect. However, if you sell your car in winter, it is older, and hence should be worth less. This is simply time depreciation.

Not much in it IMHO - you can normally negotiate £500-£1000 off what an owner wants anyway (as mentally theyve allowed for this in the price)

jolly good!
I'll keep the car all summer then, and decide again in the winter!

NDT if you want rid of your car in Winter, I'll be looking to pick one up around then, as that's when I should have enough money for it. I should have between £13K - £14K, for a car + insurance. So if you still want to sell it in Winter I'll be open to negotiations, more incentive for me to get one off PH as I know I won't be ripped off.
